Inspiration Avenue: Poetry

The problem with challenges is, they are not always easy. Sometimes you have to go outside your comfort zone. This was one of those challenges. I am not a person who identifies with poetry, poets, or even poetic justice. But I couldn't let Lisa (the Priti one) down, since this was her challenge this week at Inspiration Avenue.

I got a bit heavy handed with the gold paint and fluid acrylic, when I created the background, as well as the poem, so the words are a bit hard to read. The heart is sewn using felt (white) and discharged cotton (black fabric that has a bleach treatment). The poem reads:
I wrote your name in the sky,
but the wind blew it away.
I wrote your name in the sand,
but the waves washed it away.
I wrote your name in my heart,
and forever it will stay.

This piece can hang on a wall and is on heavy mat board. Thanks so much for looking and I hope you have a great weekend.

For those of you following my trivial life related pursuits, it looks like I am going to have to order the two sets of shelves for my basement nook. Just one more delay in a long line of delays.

  1. Although you may not be comfortable with poetry, you did this little poem sweet justice with your interpretation, Elizabeth. That's what makes us better artists -- pushing the walls of our comfort zones! Happy weekend! Hugs, Terri xoxo

  4. You did a beautiful job. I find it interesting (and also very refreshing) that there is not a speck of red or pink in this portrait of a heart. In fact green is the opposite of red. I love it! (Great poem too)

  6. That's a very nice piece, Elizabeth, and I suspect it is even better in person! A friend of the family recently passed, I think I may do something with the poem for them....maybe, just writing it in a card but I relate to the sentiment and think others will too.
