T Stands For Venturing Out

I want to begin by wishing everyone in the states, a very happy Labor Day.  I hope you are enjoying your Federally mandated holiday.  However, I especially want to thank all the essential workers who do NOT get the day off, like the nurses and doctors taking care of our sick and dying, the grocery store clerks who stock the shelves, ring up orders, and bag the groceries.  I want to thank the truck drivers who move products from place to place, and the garbage workers, who remove our trash.  Thanks also to the fire fighters, as well as the EMTs who put their lives on the line every day.  And finally to the honorable police, who don't rush to hurt or kill just because a person has a different skin color.  Thank you to all.

For the second time since late February, I'm not at home.

My foodie friend Sally talked me into venturing out into the world.  I was once again very leery, but decided others had done it, I'd give it another try, too.  We went to City Bites where they have a drive through and we didn't have to get out of the car.  I completely forgot to take photos, and as you can see, this is an old photo.

I paid for the two sandwiches and felt cheated because we could have gotten foot long submarine sandwiches much cheaper elsewhere.  We went back to Sally's where I took these photos.  She gave me a real Coke, even though I much prefer the taste of Diet Coke.  It was all she had, and since I left my coffee at home, I knew I'd need caffeine soon.  Yes, Sally's house is always this messy and cluttered, which is why I'm not fond of visiting her home.  We were nicely distanced, though.

I got a Veggie sandwich, which I'll go into in a minute.  Sally got a hot Turkey Melt on wheat berry bread.

The first thing you do is pick your choice of bread, then the sandwich.  I got half Jalapeño Cheese which I ate at Sally's

and half sun-dried tomato, which I took home and ate the next day.

Per their web site, the cold veggie contains avocado, alfalfa, sprouts, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, black olives, crushed cherry peppers (and oils, which I asked them to leave off), along with their ranch dressing which I asked for on the side.

As you can see, I got lots of pickles, but only a tiny bit of red onions, olives, and very few sprouts.  Mine was $10.00 (USD) and Sally's was $12.00 (USD).  Compare that to Subway, where (at least in Wichita, Kansas), if you purchase TWO foot longs, you get them for $5.00 (USD) each.

However, I wasn't about cry over spilled milk, so ate it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It's now time for you to share your own drink related post.  It can be gifts you received, photos, a place you visited, movies, postcards, mail art, junk mail, catalogs, books, sketches, mixed media, drawings, paintings, tags, scrapbooking, or other art that is digital, hybrid, or traditional, as long as it in some way relates back to a drink, any drink.  Regardless, please share below and Bleubeard and I, along with the rest of the T gang will be by to visit.   Please link only your T post and not your blog in general.  Old photos are acceptable because they may be taken any time, not just on Tuesday and not just this year.

Some of you saw I tripped in my craft room and fell. I will show photos in a day or two of the anti-static mat and hole I tripped over.

I'm glad you ventured out again, and that you enjoyed your food, even if it wasn't from Subway! If I don't get any unexpected bills this month I'll order a Chinese takeaway again! My place is always messy and untidy, too!! Have a hap T Day and a good week, Valerie

I've been to one restaurant with two friends. It felt so strange, I won't be trying it again soon. Our state is red again, so ...

I agree those prices are ridiculous. But you know where I live.

Happy T-Day. Stay safe and well. Hugs, Eileen

This sandwich is very expensive, Elizabeth. In Greece you would pay about 4-5$ maximum. Happy T-day, my dear friend.

Your sandwich takeaway sounds yummy! Loving the look of the sun-dried tomato sub, glad you enjoyed it although it was on the expensive side 😁. The bread looks delicious and the veggie filling is perfect too, no red onions for me though ...grin! Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x

It will probably be awhile before we eat out here, but just getting out of the house can be so important. Glad you did that! I am reminded I also need to do it more.

We have been carefully going out sometimes and having a few special friends and family over and it does feel good. Your sandwiches/hoagies/subs look good but yes, too expensive- even for me here in NE PA!
Glad to be able to get back to blogging again for a bit. Happy T day!

I've experienced exactly the same thing that you described here:

Restaurant food costs definitely have been going up during the long lockdown. Also, when you make your own food (even if there have been occasional increases in price) it's always cheaper and of course the change has been slower in your perception.

It seems even worse when you take it home instead of having it nicely plated and delivered to you with a flourish -- or even when you just pick it up at the counter and take it to a table inside the sandwich place.

Restaurant owners are having to deal with this alongside all their other problems. People aren't going to come back in the same numbers as "before."

That said, your sandwich definitely didn't look worth $10 even if the quality of every ingredient was better than Subway.

Be well and thanks for hosting today,

Venturing out is good but I am still being a home body unless walking Monte or going to the garden center....take care. xx

Your sandwich looks good. I'm not venturing out much myself. I go to the grocery store and the pharmacy, that's about it. I did try grocery delivery and while they did a good job it just wasn't "right" somehow. I like to go up and down the aisles and see things that I might not have on my list. We haven't eaten out - or even had take out - since March. Perhaps that will be my next trip.

Hmmm, you make mw want to go to Subway straight right now (but they open up only in about 5 hours!!! Seesh, why am I up that early again?!
Hmmm, looks so yummy!
And I love the paper, it is very cool still! Yes, go local!

I wondered if the price was higher because of the pandemic since I have heard a lot of places have had to raise prices. Price of groceries has gone up, too. Looked very different from Subway, though. At least it was a change and you got out and about. :)

I'm sorry I posted the wrong blog post. Thank you for alerting me. That's what I get for doing things in the middle of the night after a busy day. I shouldn't do it at that time, but then, we had been out most of the day.

I'm glad you were able to get out of the house again. Even though the sandwich was a bit pricey. I'm glad I live in a no-tourist=cheap area. Our pizza meal was 14 euros for one large pizza, three alcoholic drinks, two coffees and one liquor.

We like eating out. I dread the day when we can no longer eat outside. I don't think I would like to eat inside a restaurant.
Oh dear! You fell! Did you hurt yourself? I hope not.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

The sub looks good. And do you feel good getting out or are you still unsure whether to go out? I think a lot of it depends on how many cases are around . My view is that I pick the least crowded times and the most safe places, not that I know who has what. But if I go to the grocery store I i pick a smaller store and go when it isn’t likely to be as crowded. That’s all I mean. Hope you had a nice lunch at Sally’s and a good drive out. And happy t day too. Hugs Erika

That was a well deserved shout out to the workers who keep things running on public holidays Elizabeth 💙 I don't blame you for being a little fed up with your lunc, they really didn't seem to adhere to your requests at all.. and then there was the missed Subway 😉 So sorry to hear that you fell, I hope you didn't hurt yourself too badly, it certainly gives the body a bit of a shock!

It looks like you get a lot of filling in your sandwich. I don't like Subway because they are not generous with the fillings. One slice of meat, one slice of cheese, a single lettuce leaf, and one tomato wheel. Still pretty expensive for $5. The bread is real good though. Happy T Day.

Good morning, the veggie sandwiches sounded good but I agree way to stingy on most of the ingredients. good for you to get out with your friend.
Happy T Hugs Kathy

I ventured the other day into Subway, my first take out food (on my own) since March. I was dying for a sub and I took it home and scarfed it down in no time!!!!!!
BTW we had Labour Day here in Canada as well on Monday.
Gloomy day today.

I have since added a photo of my tomatoes with the blossom end rot. You can actually eat them (we do). Just cut off the offending bit, the rest is fine.

If that's Sally's cluttered house, I shudder to think about what would happen if you came to mine! But I'm glad you made your first venture and that it was OK, or OK enough. At least you know you can if you must!

Yay! Very excited that you and Sally were able to go out and about again, don't you just love a drive-through? Saves so much time. I would have loved the bread, but you know me, I would have needed some meat added to my sandwich dear Elizabeth.(lol) Another friend and I have been talking about subs and the best places to go. I am partial to Harris Teeter which offers a footlong sandwich for $4.99 on Fridays, but she says that Publix is better by far and offers goodies like chicken tender subs! That's on my list to try something this Friday after a friend visits rehab for his shoulder. The subway here offers subs for $5 if you order online first. Otherwise it goes for regular price. Have you been watching any of the basketball teams? I'm getting ready for football!!!! Hugs, RO
