Let's make a wreath

Spring is here and many of us want to celebrate by adding some type of ornament to our front door or on our porch.  I'm going to make a wreath out of mostly recycled materials today.  I invite you to join me.

The problem with most wreaths is you have to buy a wreath base.

However, if you have an old embroidery hoop, whether plastic or wood, you have your base.

If you are anal like me, you can wrap your hoop in green floral tape.  The tape is one item you cannot recycle.  Here's a tip: be sure to stretch the tape as you roll it around the item.

However, you CAN recycle your old and deconstructed flower arrangements.  Several of these have lived on graves for several weeks at a time over several years, so they are nicely weather worn.  Others have been used over the years in outdoor floral arrangements and are now ready for deconstruction.  You might want to wrap the chosen stems in floral tape, too.

I have these silk and faux flowers everywhere, so I always have lots of colors and styles to choose from.

I chose these flowers because they reminded me of spring.  I glued them to the hoop using E-6000 after I decided I didn't want to deal with my hot glue gun.

It's fairly obvious, I will need to straighten them a bit, because several of these flowers have seen better days.  However, the only new things I used were floral tape and E-6000.   And I didn't even begin to make a dent in my used flowers.

After fidgeting with these flowers a bit, I hung them on my very dirty front porch.

I'm quite pleased with how this recycled and repurposed wreath turned out.

Before I went back inside, I noticed my hyacinths have finally bloomed.

I got close for a better look.

I see the flower on the far left in the photo has already bloomed and died back for the year.

It was then I noticed my tulips!

Maybe they are making up for doing so poorly last year.

I was almost giddy with joy when I saw there were actually buds and not just leaves this year!

I admit I got a bit carried away documenting these beauties.

I even walked around the yard snapping photos

of buds that will soon turn into gorgeous blooms.

Thanks so very much for joining me today.  This is Day 4 of 22 and I made a wreath for my front porch from a repurposed embroidery hoop and deconstructed silk and faux flowers.  I also showed the real flowers growing in my "Flower Bed."

Your Spring wreath came out lovely, Elizabeth. And I always enjoy reading your commentary along the way. Your tulips look great: it looks like they all have buds! I like the hyacinths, too. I planted some of those from an Easter plant I got one year. They came up for a few years, then they stopped growing. Maybe I didn't plant the bulbs deep enough, and a hard Winter killed them off.

Good morning, I love your spring wreath Elizabeth-and I never would have thought to use an old embroidery hoop-I left several at the woods house to sell-when ever this virus ends. I may need to retrieve one
I can see your garden blooms have you in smiles-I have been thinking my daffodils at the woods house have been blooming.
Happy Saturday

This is a lovely way to recycle silk and artificial flowers. the wreath you created for your porch looks beautiful, a bright and happy welcome, not that we are encouraging folk to call on us these days or invite them inside. Its a good way to use an embroidery frame , it would look good as a Christmas wreath base as well.
your garden flowers in bud look lovely as well, they will be a lovely splash of colour when they open.
Take care and stay safe.

Very pretty wreath and it looks like you'll have a bumper crop of tulips. We don't get many tulips as the bulbs are a favorite of the chipmunks.

It's a lovely Spring wreath and a great way of recycling the old silk flowers and looks bright and cheery on your porch - I think we all need a bit of colour in our lives these days.
It's lovely to see your hyacinths in bloom, I just love the fragrance and it looks like you will get a good show from your tulips.
Have a great weekend and stay safe.
Hugs, Avril xx

This turned out beautifully Elizabeth. I can honestly say I have never thought of a spring wreath - I wonder if it’s an American thing or just something that my family didn’t do. At any rate, it makes a lovely addition to your porch I’m sure.

What pretty spring wreath! And I never would have guessed your house was dirty if you didn't mention it. I thought it was just weathered in a nice way. My house is probably the same only it isn't white so it may not be so obvious. And look at those gorgeous spring flowers in your garden. What a happy post today with all these gorgeous blooms. Thanks. Hugs-Erika

I don't know what I love most -- the wreath, which is such a fabulous idea and I really love how it turned out -- or your beautiful blooms. You're ahead of us and I'm' hoping to see hyacinths in a few weeks. Those tulips look strong and great. I don't know if I have any anymore after the deer chomping episode of a year ago -- we'll see.

Great idea with an embroidery hoop -- and using up those flowers! You're right -- we all have them.

Have a beautiful Sunday. I hope the sun is shining there like it is here. Sorely needed.
