Making my own sauce

Today I'm once again joining Rike at Rike's Art our host this month at Art Journal Journey.   Rike's theme is Fruit and Veggies

This is a true mixed media entry I call Make your own tomato sauce.

I got a little carried away with this journal entry,

I pulled in everything I thought would make a good tomato sauce.

I even found a button in the form of a potholder.

It all started with the image of the tomatoes being turned into a sauce I found in a travel magazine (AFAR).

For this page, I began by laying down yellow water soluble crayon for my background of 110 lb card stock.  The picture of the tomatoes being turned into sauce was my inspiration piece, so I glued it to the substrate once the page was dry.  Next, I cut an image and words about a tomato spoon from an old 1970 book on kitchen tools and materials.  I also fussy cut a roma tomato and added it to the side of the tool.  The plant stakes, saved from two years ago, came next.  Then I added the computer generated words.  I still had space, so I added a bowl that looked like tomato sauce and the potholder button.  Finally, I found another bowl of tomatoes and added them to the left side of the page.

Thank you so much for joining me today.  I really appreciate your visit.  I hope to also see you at AEDM and Art Journal Journey.

This is Day 20 of AEDM hosted by Leah Piken Kolidas, and I created a journal page for Art Journal Journey.

I never have heard there is something like a tomato spoon!
And I´ll never get it if it´s "tomato" or "tomatoe", same the pota... (well, there is even a The Simpsons-episode on that).
Great work. And, yes, I should eat a tomato(e) today!

What an unusual page. You have made me hungry even though it's still very early here. Have a lovely day, Valerie

Well, that's a new one...definitely a single function tool, lol. I don't think I'll be needing one any time soon. What a fun page.

What a cool little tool for tomatoes. Never heard of that, but seems like ti would work perfectly. This is a great reminder to get some tomato seeds for planting too! Great page! Hugs, RO

I used to make tomato sauce, but mostly from canned tomatoes. I never heard of a tomato spoon either. If I used real tomatoes, the whole thing went into the sauce. Lol! Looks wonderful!

Another happy Summer page on another grey day. A tomato spoon? That's cool. Never heard of that before. And just for a little fun for an Italian, it's gravy not sauce. 😉 Ok, technically, it's gravy if it's made with meat (meatballs, sausage, braciole ) Growing up, we just called it all gravy. And if you're going to make your own, use plum tomatoes. And no sugar!

This yellow background makes your collage very bright and sunny - and sun is important for the tomatoes to get red, so it fits very well! Make your own tomato sauce - what a great idea for my theme at AJJ, I send you a big Thank You for linking it!
I did not know that there exists a tomato spoon, it looks very helpful (the text about it is funny)!
Also great that you now could use your saved pieces like the plant stakes from two years ago, and all the other pictures you added to your wonderful collage!

I've never made my own tomato sauce, but that page looks encouraging. It looks publication-ready for a cookbook :)

Oh I think you are making me drool for a big plate of pasta and sauce right now. Homemade sauce. Well if I could have anyone's it would be my grandmother's but since they can't happen maybe I'll just with my own. A poor second to hers. You really did add everything needed for a yummy red sauce and I love how you put i on the yellow background-so many bright happy colors. We are eating good in blogland this week if we stop by you blog, even if it is just visual eating. Smile. Hugs-Erika

The sauce - gravy is a hotly debated issue and really depends on where you're from/grew up. In my family it was called gravy. An Italian friend of mine calls it sauce. I tease him that sauce comes from a jar because it says so on the label. 😺 I'm not sure what the difference is between Plum and Roma tomatoes. My parents had a large garden and always planted plum. Maybe that was the only variety they knew or could get.

It sounds a good idea to make your own tomato sauce and i did love seeing your wonderful page including the special tools that are available to help the job go smoothly. I think I will pass on making my own and keep using my sauce from a tin or a bottle. The easy way for me.

Great colourful page Elizabeth! My Mum made ketchup once! We were sitting having breakfast one morning and heard several loud bangs - the bottles exploded all over our white pantry - all we could do was laugh! As you know - I am on catch up ....again!
