Revolutsia

While the youngsters were in Wichita, I decided to take them to

Revolutsia.  According to their web site:
By definition, Revolutsia is “a fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing something: a change in paradigm.”
My no-name, no-photo fashionista friend told me about this place.   She said I would love the concept, if nothing else.  What did we find? There were 36 shipping containers uniquely arranged and centered around an open courtyard with retail shops, restaurants, and office spaces.

What a clever way to recycle something mundane and turn it into something functional.  The only problem was, there were very few parking spaces and we had to walk a long way

to reach one of the openings.

Once we got there, though, it was worth the walk, if for no other reason than to see what could be accomplished with recycled shipping containers.

Some of the 36 containers were still "under construction."  You can see this container has the potential for housing up to four unique facilities.

Many of the containers have already been taken.

I was surprised and impressed by the different designs.  Look carefully at the photo above this one and you will see glass fronts on all the containers, while the containers on this side have limited visual impact.  Note there are also shops, restaurants, and office spaces on the second (top) level.

Despite the ungodly heat and humidity (up to 106 F, or 40 C the day we were there),

people were lounging in the center court.

We were all drawn to the summertime, beachy colors we found in the center court.

It was obvious some tenants were still moving in,

while others were still finalizing their design concepts.

Apparently, there were all sorts of options for each container and its configuration.

We had already eaten, so the restaurants didn't draw us inside.  However, the youngsters found a gift shop they wanted to stop in.  They were looking for something that reminded them of Wichita or of Kansas to take back to their aunt in California.  Be aware, the children lived in Wichita their entire lives until they moved to live with their aunt.  The only time their aunt was in Wichita was for very short visits and to plan her sister's funeral.

While they looked over the selections, I took a few photos of other interesting things in the shop.

I considered saving this post for T Tuesday, but decided to show it while adventures with the children were still fresh in everyone's minds.

That's some love story!

I really need these coasters for T Tuesday!

Once purchases were made, we walked around a bit more, but I could tell the children were ready to leave.

We found an exit

and took a few more photos

for good measure.

Thanks for spending time with me today when I took the three youngsters to Revolutsia.

what an interesting concept - although given the heat I see your part of the States is about to experience (again!) I hope the containers are all air conditioned! You know where I am about to head to......

Great idea to recycle the containers and make it a place to shop and enjoy. Loved that coffee mug, too. Have a wonderful day, Valerie

Now that is a super recycling idea and one that will be of interest to many and to other countries the possibilities for their use could be endless.
A super post Elizabeth.

That is a clever use of shipping containers. It is good to see them being reused in such a cool and productive way. I also was taken by those stickers. Here in NH we also use the word being kind-but especially about drivers. Our neighbors to the south are not known for being the most patient (for lack of a better word) drivers. I know as I am one of those south of the NH border drivers at heart (as I am from that state with the very long name starting with M) and can turn back into one if needed. But here in NH we stress being courteous and nice drivers, which for the most part we are. Cool post today! I enjoyed it. Hugs-Erika

This is a fabulous idea to recycle containers !! Thanks so much for sharing the photographs with us. I can imagine the children and you thinking about the second life we can give to material things, big or small, and the goodness for us and our earth. I ´d like to see a project like this one here in my country too, it would be perfect ( and all over the world).
Today we also have a very hot day here (yes.... it´s summer :)--)
I wish you a very happy weekend, and send big hugs.

Your friend gave you a great tip for a destination, and she's right- the concept is very appealing. I can envision a book store there among the other shops. Still spaces to fill. Thanks for the tour. Oh my, that heat- it calls for ice cream. So I can envision an ice cream shop there, too.

Clever use of the shipping containers. They seem to be very popular for housing too, I've seen a few conversions on tv programs. Great mug and coasters.
Have a lovely weekend Elizabeth, I hope it's not that hot still!

Hi, Elizabeth. I am so happy you had your youngsters (I didn't say grandchildren LOL) for a visit and they have fun memories. This place is fabulous! Where I live, my town has mega storage containers to the south in the next town and soon will to our east as well, so I googled it and found their website for bookmarking. The time may come when we want to do something like it here. It's a wonderful and clever project, and I thank you for bringing it to our attention. Hope you are well, xoxox
