365 Day Art Challenge: week 39 and a new host at Art Journal Journey

Here are my collages for Week 39.  This 365 something project was created in part and hosted by Hanna at i Hanna.

In case you missed them, here are Week 38's collages.  As I'm sure you know by now, I post every Monday morning for the previous week.  All my collages are 4" X 4" (10,16 cm X 10,16 cm).

If you are playing in Hanna's 365 Something project, please let me know and I will be by to see what you are making.  Please let me know if you like any of these.  As always, I am extremely grateful for your continued support of this project and my art.

Thank you beyond belief for spending time with me today.

Today is my Grandmother's birthday and we also have a new host at Art Journal Journey and a new theme.   Please welcome Linda of heARTfully inspired by Linda.  Her theme is Creature Comforts.  I admit I was a bit stumped by this theme, so I'm glad Linda explained she was looking for warm colors, going with a creature (my first thought), or a journal page that comforts you.  Since it's my Grandmother's birthday, there is nothing more comforting than thinking about Grams (my grandparents raised me from birth).

I'm sure she is my guardian angel, even to this day.

I placed so much symbolism in this journal page.  My grandmother was a seamstress.  She sewed all my clothes until I entered high school, and she made quilts that would put the Blue Ribbon ones at the State Fair to shame.  Those she quilted by hand using a HUGE hoop that sat on her lap.

My grandmother also crocheted.  When I found this ribbon that looked like it might be something she might crochet, I dyed it lavender, possibly her favorite color.

The butterflies are symbolic of how she taught me to be a free spirit and always believe in my dream.

One butterfly stood out from all the rest.  She taught me I should stand out too, especially if I had a good education, something very important to her, since she had both run a business and been a full time school teacher.

My grandmother loved roses, and although her favorite were yellow, she would never turn down a red or pink one.

My grandmother loved birds, and had a parakeet as long as I could remember.

For this page, I started with a background of scrapbook paper that I sewed to 110 lb card stock using variegated thread.  I fussy cut the angel and sewed it to the background.  Next, I cut and sewed the "house" to the background, then added the lace I dyed by hand using a Staz-on reinker and 91% alcohol.  To anchor the house, I added two strips of washi tape.

I hope this fits with Linda's idea of Creature Comforts and I hope my grandmother is smiling down on this birthday homage to her today.  Don't forget to visit us at Art Journal Journey, too, please.  Please be aware we love journal pages, canvases, and loose pages larger than 4 X 5.8 inches (105 x145 mm) and are gladly accepted if they follow the host's theme.  Please don't link tags, ATCs, or cards, because we will be forced to remove them.  Digital art is ALWAYS welcome.

Thanks again for visiting today.  Bleubeard and I are always grateful you chose to stop by.

You seem to have a summer theme with your collages this week-at least with some of them. Nice! And I absolutely love the tribute to your Grandmother. I enjoyed the story and how you made the page for her. Its quite a beautiful page. How old would she have been this year? Hope it's a great new week. Hugs-Erika

Happy Birthday, Grams! Your tribute to her is very moving and the page you created is just beautiful. I think it looks like a quilt square, too.

I will start off by saying how much fun your collages are- and of course I especially love the summer ones:):)
And wow, what an absolutely BEAUTIFUL homage to your grandmother. It is such a touching journal page and story. I just know your grandmother is smiling and welling with pride. Thanks for having me at AJJ as guest host, and for your very special contribution to begin the new theme this month!

I am not just in awe of this week's collages - you always come up with the most impressive titles and I call "Ear worm" my favourite this week but I am totally impressed with this wonderful homage to your grandmother! All the special things you put together in such a pretty way in honor of her bring tears to my eyes. Your grandmother sure was the type of grandmother I had in twin pack - both were seamsdresses and the most creative woman. You made not just Linda happy with this amazing page for her new theme at AJJ but also you made me happy! Thank you beyond belief for this outstanding page linked to the party!

Happy October dear Co.Admin!
Have a creative and good month!!
You are wonderful!

Hugs, Susi
