Friday Smiles 289: a trip to the art museum , part 1

Until further notice, every Friday I will share a trip to a museum, or some place out and about.  HOWEVER, until I can get my Mr. Linky problem corrected, this will have to be my last Friday Smiles.  I can't ask people to link me, and it isn't fair to others, either.

I don't have many funnies today, so I will share them first.

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ball-point pens would not work in zero gravity.

To combat this problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300° C.

The Russians use a pencil.

One day President Obama fell off a bridge and was saved by three young boys.

Obama thanked them and said he'd give them all one thing they wanted.

The first boy asked for a trip to Disney Land and that summer he was in Disney Land.

The second boy asked for a pair of Nike Shocks and sure enough, the next day he was wearing a pair of Nike Shocks.

The third boy asked for a wheel chair with a plasma TV, cup holders and hydraulics.

Obama, looking puzzled at the boy, asked why he wanted a tricked out wheel chair because he didn't look disabled.

The young boy replied, "I will be after my father finds out that I saved you."

HOW TO START EACH DAY WITH A SMILE....

1. Open a new file in your computer.

2. Name it 'Donald Trump.'

3. Send it to the Recycle Bin.

4. Empty the Recycle Bin.

5. Your PC will ask you: 'Do you really want to get rid
of 'Donald Trump?'

6. Firmly Click 'Yes.'

7. Feel better?

GOOD - Tomorrow we'll do Vladimir Putin.

Now let's head to the Art Museum with two teens and a tween.

Little did I realize when we set out on this day

that these children would get so involved in the Art Museum.

For some reason, I envisioned a quick visit, then off to lunch at a local fast food place.

Little did I realize these children were so enamored with art and sculpture.

Apparently, their parents had never encouraged their love of art.

Their aunt, who they now live with, is heavy into art and encourages the children to learn everything they can about it.

As we walked toward the building, I was so absorbed with making sure the children's images were not reflecting in the glass surfaces, I totally missed seeing the man sitting in the garden area.

Seems I caught the man again, but not the children.

Not long after we entered, we saw this display of what was at the art museum and what could be found around the city and state.

You certainly don't live here and not know about the "Keeper of the Plains," which, if you have read my blog for any length of time, are all familiar with now.

Of course, we had to take a photo of the Chihuly sculpture,

and the children had to walk on the Chihuly bridge.  Then it was off to see the art.

I enjoyed this and so did a couple of the children.

We all liked this one.

One of the children really liked this one because it was reminiscent of their mother when she was taking chemotherapy.

I'm not sure why, but I really liked this one and it was my favorite I had seen up to then.

We stopped to "admire" this metal sculpture, where the tween thought it looked like King Kong.  AHH, to be young and still have an active imagination.

At this point we had barely made it into the museum and I was already being overwhelmed with questions and comments.  The quick "in and out" I expected turned into nearly SIX hours there.  I can assure you, all four of us had a day to remember.  You'll probably be tired of this museum before we see it all.

Thanks for joining the children and me today and thanks for your continued visits and support.  Now let's visit Annie's Friday Smiles, where it never hurts to begin the weekend with a big smile, just like Annie's. Feel free to join in with a post of your own, too.  And thanks for those of you who offered ways I could fix my Mr. Linky problem, which unfortunately has nothing to do with my internet woes.  The Linky problem was there BEFORE my internet decided to throw a menopausal fit.

always a delight to see some Chihuly! the paintings aren't to my taste, but I am sure later in your trip, there will be plenty I do like! Six hours is a long time for youngsters to be so engrossed in art though, and it is to be applauded (not sure I'd last that long!)

There's some great art there, and the glass is always my fave, at the museums over here, too. Enjoy your Friday, hope your computer soon gets sorted. Valerie

I'm amazed the kids were so engrossed in the museum and art, that's lovely.
I loved the glass sculpture, very unusual.

It really isn’t a problem to link you each week if needed....I’m sorry I didn’t add Bleubeard last week. Love the museum pics and it’s so lovely that the kids enjoyed it so much too.

I like the pencil joke!
Wonderful photos of your visit to the museum and I read all your interest words - that's good that you did not made photos of the children to save their security. But by chance you caught a man in the photos, haha!
And the quick in and out turned into six hours - you are very patient to answer questions and comments of the kids!
Wish you a happy weekend!

I don't blame the kids for wanting to visit. It's fun to visit from my computer. The Chihuly Bridge looks like fun and I like the same painting you do. I agree I don't why know I like it so much but I do. It looks like a fun day out and even better that you had the kids with you to see these pieces through different eyes. Have a great Friday. But you git me with HOW TO START EACH DAY WITH A SMILE!

Big hugs, Susi
Finger crossed for your PC - I hope Mr. Scott will be able to help soon. I am sure he will have a solution!

Maybe it's your browser? I always have huge problems with the Internet Explorer but with Firefox all runs well here at my PC.

A wonderful post and I enjoyed seeing the art in the photos you shared today. I think its good to introduce children to art in this way, the time you spent looking at the exhibits shows how much they must have enjoyed being with you there.
I am still grinning at todays smiles, especially the last one on deleting posts on the computer.

I don't think I'll be tired of the museum. I love them! And I'm so, SO happy that these children loved and appreciated the art -- had questions, were involved! That's what one always hope but it doesn't always work out that way. And you were the perfect person with whom to continue their art journey, knowing a good deal, having the enthusiasm. I am so pleased you have been able to be in touch with them, to maintain the time and friendship despite the distance. It doesn't always work out that way. They have a remarkable gift in you.

Hi Elizabeth. I am not an ardent art person, but this place is so full of light and colour; I am sure I would have enjoyed a few hours wandering around it too. I like the sculptures, especially the Chihuly one. What a good influence you are on those young lives. Kate x

Your jokes are very good, Elizabeth, the pencil and the austronauts is very good, actually, I have got a ball pen that writes in zero gravity, it was a gift when I subscribed to a magazine. It's beautiful and yes it works upside down, but the problem is that I can find any replacement cartridge.
thank you very much for sharing with us those beautiful photographs from the art museum, they are fabulous all.
I wish you a very nice afternoon, big hugs, Caty
