Friday Smiles 277: The Flower Bed Garden and rain

I'm sure you are aware from the post title that I'm here for Annie's Friday Smiles

I know lots of people like to show off their gardens.  Mine is sad compared to the ones I see most of you share.  We've had rain three days in a row, so everything has grown since I mowed.  I'm trying to cut back the plants I don't want to keep anymore.

This is the year I plan my whole yard makeover.  That way, when spring arrives next year. I'll have it all planned out and ready to plant.

I've got plans for the rocks

and the day lilies, although most of these will probably stay where they are.

I'll definitely save the hostas

and my rose bush, too.

I'm just glad it has come back to life.

More hostas

will find their place with these hostas.  Sadly, I have no flowering plants other than my roses.  Hopefully next year will be a different story.

One of the nights it rained, my friend Joseph, who lives in California, filmed the rain and lightening.  He was here for a funeral that I also attended on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, I never got a photo of his face, but it's on my right sidebar in case you want to see it.

I'm not sure you can tell how heavy the rain was, but I took this and the next photo without a flash.

We had over two inches that night alone.  I hope these put a smile on your face, because this has not been a very happy week for me.

Thanks for joining me today and thanks for your continued visits and support.  Now let's visit Annie's Friday Smiles, where it never hurts to begin the weekend with a big smile, just like Annie's. Feel free to join in with a post of your own, too.

You could share a little of your rain with us happily. It’s so hot here and where the moors are burning up near Manchester they are crying out for rain to dampen the fires. I hope your garden plan goes to plan and you can enjoy a few more blooms for next year.
I’m sorry it’s not been a good week for you and hope our sharing of smiles helps.
Hugs,
Annie x

We had heavy rains 2 days ago too with a couple of suburbs suffering flooding.
Enjoy planning your garden Elizabeth. I enjoy gardening but it can be hard work. Here when the rains start all the weeks come up out of nowhere and they takes ages to pull out!
Be careful with the lilies and your cats, the stamen are poisonous to cats and dogs too.

Oh we got also two days of rain - much much rain - but now it is over and we are predicted to get high temperatures again. You are the same addicted gardener like my friend and neighbour Maria with her garden. She always plans and tries out new plants for her little paradise and she gifted me with some veggie seedlings for my new raised bed as well.
Much work all that as I know! Sorry you had a not so good week with the sad funeral but nice your friend Joseph visited you!
Hope you could at least enjoy that!
I scheduled for Sunday already at our challenge.....
if you can find time to read and maybe mke time to answer my last email you would make me happy as well- but don't hurry and stress please my friend. I know you had much to do and problems with the IT again. And those funeral and all! Keep relaxed and enjoy your weekend my friend!
Your garden is wonderful as it is - the rose is so beautiful and I like hostas so much. I will divide mine this autum - it has grown so massive - now it starts to bloom and I so love the lilac blooms from the hosta.I will bring a part of it to another part of the garden then and hopefully it will grow theres also as well.
Hugs, Susi

You did indeed have a difficult week, sorry to hear it. Phew- that rain is coming down. No wonder all looks so green and lush in your garden. The pile of rocks looks interesting- wonder what you'll do with them?? We await photos. Good luck with the makeover.

I am sorry you had a funeral to attend. That never makes for a very happy week. But I expect the rain was quite welcome. I am sure your garden enjoyed it! We had a 'tropical storm at 5.00 in the morning on Tuesday. It was unexpected, and the thunder and lightening woke us up and sent us rushing out in the dark to rescue lounger cushions, music speaker etc. But again, it did the garden the world of good.
I am surprised you had no flowers on your hostas. I gave up on mine in UK because most of them were eaten by slugs and snails, and I didn't like putting slug pellets down because of our animals and the wild birds. Nothing else seemed to help them. But I am sure you will have a beautiful garden by next spring. Kate x

Your garden will have enjoyed the rain, those shots of the storm looked amazing.

You certainly sound more organized in planning your garden for next year than I could ever be. My husband did plant roses on two sides of our yard one year. Ever since then we just plant kinda randomly, i.e., "Something with yellow flowers might look nice in that spot." (Next day a trip to the nursery or even Safeway's garden shop and great excitement over yellow chrysanthemums that seem to thrive well under benign neglect . . . Lol. On another note, my sympathies that you had a funeral to attend.

I'm glad you got that sorely needed rain. Last year Rick divided some hostas and they seemed like they didn't take off but this year they are full and doing great. I think it's coming along fine and I really admire your future planning. I don't seem to be able to pull that together!

H Elizabeth, this weather! we've not had rain for weeks there has even been a Wildfire on the moors near Manchester, it's crazy. I've been out all day at a craft show so just trying to catch up with the comments. I'm sure your garden will look wonderful next year and look forward to seeing it. Have a great weekend, Angela xXx

Late visit for me as i've been out for most of the day. Your rain reminds me of the storms we had around a month ago, now it's record summer heat with cracked earth & global madness.
I too am looking to get my small back garden sorted but it's had to be put on hold for the moment. All the best with yours Elizabeth, the slugs and snails enjoyed my Hostas :(
Wishing you a brighter week ahead hugs Tracey xx

Sorry it was a bad week. Hopefully next week will be a better one.

That rain will certainly make all your plants happy. You probably enjoyed it too since you've had so much dry weather. I think it is fun to plan out a garden. I have been working on one of mine, separating plants and pulling out weeds. It needed a little more TLC than usual since I had only weeded it for the pasts several years. You will have fun fixing up yours I am sure. Hope this week is better than at least part of your week was. Hugs-Erika

Daylilies are among my favorites, especially the orange field lilies. That's what I have :) Planning is such a fun part of gardening, and rocks are always interesting elements. I look forward to seeing what you do.

Sometimes it is just so good to get rain …
We have had a hot, dry spell of weather here in the UK, some rain would be nice!

All the best Jan

Oh! So that's what rain looks like - we are still 'enjoying' the unexpected heat wave! I wish it would cool down a touch although the blue skies each morning look lovely! Your garden is looking good! Hugs, Chrisx

Looks like you're very busy with your garden - I'm sure it will look fabulous after all the planning and planting. Here in Scotland we are 'enjoying' a very hot and dry spell. This morning we have now been told we are now nearing a drought situation and asked not to water our gardens so we would welcome the rain! Hugs, Elizabeth x
