Metamorphosis

It's once again time to join Jo at Let's Art Journal, our host this month at Art Journal Journey whose theme is flora and fauna.

Today I have a mixed media entry I created in my large art journal.

I found the quote on the internet, but it wasn't attributed to anyone.  It reads: "What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls the butterfly."

I used my watercolor crayons to color the quote, but couldn't find a deep blue to match the beautiful color of the butterfly.  Behind my sewn quote, I added a piece of vellum.

I was also having trouble matching the pink background paper I used with the pink in the focal image.

To make the color difference less noticeable, and to soften the colors and edges, I sewed two pieces of yellow vellum along one side and the bottom of the focal image.

I also sewed a heart doily behind the focal image, and overlapped it with some of my handmade washi tape.

Materials used in this spread include a sheet of pink copier/printer paper, a colored computer generated quote, the focal image, taken from a magazine, two pieces of yellow vellum, a white heart doily, handmade washi tape, and two different variegated threads.

Thank you beyond belief for joining me today, and I hope you'll join me at Art Journal Journey.   There's still a few hours for you to join us with a flora and fauna journal page, canvas, or spread in an altered book.

This is a beautiful page my friend. It is almost romantic feeling-but I love all the textures and details you added. And of course the butterfly and the beautiful flowers. It's the perfect page for the last day of May. I think you did well matching the colors with your watercolor crayons. The brighter blue would have been nice, but I like the lighter colors. Hope all is well with you. Hugs-Erika

A truly lovely page. Pink is not my color, but I must say it makes that gorgeous blue butterfly pop. And the quote is so perfect for this page.

Love the heart doily, so pretty and it softens the whole page too.
