Friday Smiles 256

Once again, I am sharing a few more of these photos from the History Museum each Friday, along with some funny stories, quotes, verse, or jokes I found when I was cleaning my office.

I'll share the funny stuff first, then you can see and enjoy the photos of the museum. By now you know I'm here for Annie's Friday Smiles.

When I was a little boy, my father bought me a bat for Christmas.  It bit me three times before it flew away!

The average age of people living in a military retirement community is 85. Recently, a neighbor turned 100, and a big birthday party was thrown. Even his son turned up.
“How old are you?” a tenant asked.
“I’m 81 years old,” he answered.
The tenant shook her head. “They sure grow up fast, don’t they?”

As the hostess at the casino
buffet showed a well dressed lady to her table, she asked the hostess to keep an eye out for her
husband, who would be joining her
momentarily. The well dressed lady started to describe him: “He has gray hair, wears glasses, has a potbelly …”
The hostess stopped her there. “Honey,” she said, “today is senior day. They all look like that.”

“Poor Old fool,” thought the well-dressed gentleman as he watched an old man fish in a puddle outside a pub. So he invited the old man inside for a drink. As they sipped their whiskeys, the gentleman thought he’d humor the old man and asked, “So how many have you caught today?”
The old man replied, “You’re the eighth.”

My parents didn’t want to move to Florida, but they turned 60 and that’s the law.

Inside me lives a skinny woman crying to get out.

Do you call a person who has abandoned their diet a desserter?

Never go back for seconds… get it all the first time.

Now for more photos from the museum, this time continuing on the third floor.  You might want to review the ones I took the first time I came to this museum.  You will soon see how much this floor has changed since then.  Although there are bits of it that are similar or the same, much has been added, too.

As I've mentioned before, I will keep my diatribe to a minimum and you can peruse this museum at your own pace.

Dead stalks of corn?

That's a large scoop!

This area hasn't changed at all.

Yes, this is a photo of the museum we are visiting.  We are on the third floor, and this room takes up almost one half the entire floor.

This area is also the same.

Several of these artifacts are new since I was here last.

I had a long conversation with the elderly gentleman who donated the top hat to the museum.  He was quite entertaining and enjoyable to speak with.

I got a little carried away here

because I own two of these old viewfinders.

This is a good place to stop this week.  Next week, we will continue exploring the remainder of the third floor of the history museum.

Thanks for joining me today as I visited Annie and her lovely smiles.  It never hurts to start the weekend with a smile.  Feel free to join with your smile, too.

Elizabeth, I just love all your museum photies, there is so much to look at and savour, and as I'm quite sure I won't ever see it IRL, I'm taking it all in :) I really fancy that lady's sit-up-and-smile bike and of course all the clothing. Thanks for sharing these, always makes me feel like I've actually travelled ;D

Let's see if I caught everything today. This is the problem when I read blogs in the morning before work and my brain is not quite fully in gear-mainly because I want to sleep later than I can. :) I find these history museums fascinating. I wish i could take a time machine back and vacation for a bit in some of these past eras. I am sure they would feel so foreign as we do get used the time we live in. I guess I will have to settle for old movies set in those days. Have a great Friday and a weekend too!

I would have loved loved loved to visit that museum. What a treasure trove of things. I really liked looking at all the photos and enjoyed the early bicycle (still a functional model in Holland), the Men-tho-la-tum advert, the period clothes, the grasshopper story, and the bathing suit.
Thank you so much for sharing.
I read that you had never seen snowdrops in real life. They do grow in the US and there is a chap that has a transatlantic gardening blog. Link below:

Lovely post, Elizabeth. I enjoyed the jokes and loved the museum photos. The story about the grasshoppers is absolutely fascinating! I didn't know that they could be so destructive. The farmers did well to find a successful solution to the problem. Thanks for sharing. Elizabeth xx

Fabulous photos, I was drawn to the ones with the bicycles. Cycling is an interest to all my family although these days I prefer to watch it on TV.
I liked the funnies and had a chuckle at the skinny woman trying to get out.

What a wonderful walk through middle America in the 1800s. I think the funniest funny was, "If Kansas is the garden spot of the earth, save us from such happiness."
