Animals, A to Z

Today begins a new month at Art Journal Journey with our new host Rike of Rike's Art, who, like Susi hails from Austria. Rike is a real artist and her drawings and paintings are out of this world.

Rike's theme this month is Animals from A to Z.

Susi and I invite you to join us, too.  Please be aware of the rules:
Each month there is a new challenge theme for you to take part in. Our participants are Art-Journalers, Altered Book Lovers, Rubber-stamp-addicts and Mixed Media Artists from all over the world. You are invited to take part by linking via the InLinksTool. Please be considerate and remember that greeting cards or ATCs, tags  and such rather smaller artwork will not be accepted for our event and we have to delete the links - only larger artwork in an Art Journal or on Canvas or loose pages larger than DIN A 6 (105 x145 mm=4.1 x 5.8 inches) will be accepted.  Digital Layouts are welcome as well.
We would love to see a few new faces, as well as what you, our loyal participants, come up with from the current theme.

I began with what I thought was an amphibian, only to learn the sea turtle is really a reptile!

Thankfully, I ended with a zebra!

I created this page in my large art journal.  I first painted the background using both yellow and blue acrylics using a faux credit card.  While the background was drying, I found pictures of many animals from small images on the back of three animal calendars that I cut using my deckle scissors.  Then I tried to color coordinate the animals with a colored mat.  Finally, I used a metallic gel pen to write the letters.

I hope you will join Susi, Rike, Bleubeard, and me this month at Art Journal Journey.  And of course, thank you for your continued support of my art.

Oh, Elizabeth, thank you so much for your words - I feel me honoured!
Your journal page is first class - you collected so many different animals on it, cutted with your deckle scissors, and created an excellent background with your credit card and acrylics!
Wish you a wonderful day! Rike x

Fun theme and page. I like the mats as it looks like a window into the animal's world. Hard to decide on a favorite animal: the polar bear, wolf cub, and penguins are all in the running for cutest.

Nice page Elizabeth.

I really like the page, Elizabeth. It will be a fun theme. That little dog in the lower left corner is adorable. It can come live at my house anytime.

So many animals! I have trouble enough with small-form art, much less full-page pieces, but I'll enjoy the creations of other artists :) Happy February!

You've given us lots of fascinating animals here, Elizabeth, each shown off in their own coloured frame. The variety and abundance of species in this world is beyond comprehension, so much beauty and uniqueness.

Great page to start the Animals A to Z challenge, Elizabeth! It must have taken ages to find all those pictures!

Thanks for explaining the rules as well. I feel like I'm moving toward a larger journal, but I'm not quite there yet. I'm loving all that I'm learning about art from the T-ladies and their connections.
