The Road to Discovery

It's time to once again join Erika at Bio Art Gal this month's host at Art Journal Journey with her theme New Year, New Adventures.

I had already colored this page when I realized the ship would not fit upright on the page.  I didn't want to use my new large journal because the watercolor crayons would show the background.  So I decided to turn the page on its side and create the entry from this direction.

"The road to discovery

can lead to destinations you never dreamed were possible."   I purposely placed the words at various angles, which I hoped would represent the way the ship sailed through the sea.

Again, I didn't paint or try to color the ship.  I actually like how it stood out against the dark blue background.

I began this page in my Challenges altered book by laying down two colors of blue water soluble crayons, the gift from my friend Cindy that keeps on giving.  I pushed the colors around until I was happy with how the background looked.  Had I realized I would be rotating the page, I would have colored it from side to side lengthwise.  The computer generated text was colored with dye inks.  The colors clashed a bit, but, in the end, I was pleased with the color combination.

Thanks for joining me today at Art Journal Journey.  And thanks for your visit and continued support of my art.  Erika, Susi, and I hope to see you at AJJ, too.  There's still time for you to join us.

I think the ship looks more natural this way. Being on the ocean and riding the waves bit...I like this travel adventure you have been bringing us on lately. Great idea! And you've had some good quotes too! I do like the color combination on the word bits and the background too. Hope you are having a great weekend! Hugs-Erika

I am also pleased with the color combination - I always love blue and violet together - near realtives in harmony .
I also like how the ship stood out against the dark blue background. Well done - if you hadn't mentioned I hadn't thought you started out with a problem of sizes.Well fixed!
Happy Sunday Elizabeth!

I am finally cluing in to why you call your blog "Altered Book Lover". I finally figured out that you are working your art always on a page from some book. I'm curious. What got you started on this challenge? Is this purely for journalling, or do you envision it as something you would publish one day? The art you share is always fascinating, and the lessons on how you achieved it is as well. But this is a new concept for me.

I've never been on a cruise, but I know people who have and they've loved their adventures. The trip itself can be as great an adventure as the destination :)

I think you made a good decision not to colour the ship - it really does contrast with your colours! Love the quote too! Not being a good sailor I would not consider a sea cruise, although my Aunt and Uncle take one most years! Hugs, Chrisx

Now a trip on a boat adventure sounds good for me a [much better idea than a plane].
The contrast looks good with the blues of the background, it is a beautiful colour.

I like the blue on the page. The Eldest isn't going by boat, but tomorrow she goes on a journey to Pittsburgh for her orientation. I like the idea she is sailing into her future.

Another fun travel themed page. I like these retro images you’re using in this series. And I’m so glad you continue to enjoy my spaire watercolour crayons! You’re getting great results with them!

I like the boldness of the ship in black and white. And your deep blue background. We are not so blue here, more green in there and ice chunks piled up on the river banks after high tide. After the full moon it should be interesting to see how high the tide came in. xox
