Friday Smiles 249

I had to put Friday Smiles on hiatus while I participated in Art Every Day Month, or AEDM.  Now it is over, I am glad to be back smiling with Annie every Friday.  By now, many of you know I have a ton of photos from the History Museum I visited for Smithsonian Day.  Like a fool, I forgot to leave a link to this wonderful museum, so here it is now.  I thought I would share a few of these photos each Friday for awhile, along with some funny stories, quotes, verse, or jokes I found when I was cleaning my office.

I'll share the funny stuff first, to get you in the mood to see the photos of the museum. By now you know I'm here for Annie's Friday Smiles.

Before marriage, a man will lie awake all night thinking about something you said; after marriage, he'll fall asleep before you finish saying it.

A man may be a fool and not know it, but not if he is married.

And now photos from one of my favorite rooms in the museum.  Even though it is indicative of times gone by in Wichita, KS, I suspect this will bring back memories of days gone by for a few of you today.

Some of these pieces are just incredible.

I got a bit carried away because I saw SO much in this vignette.

As  you can tell, this next vignette is behind Plexiglas.

Even though I was getting background images, I couldn't stop taking photos of this incredible high chair with the cane seat.

Old tin cans make me swoon, red embroidery on the bib caught my eye,

and I would LOVE to have that carpet in blue tones!

I fear I didn't follow the right path, so I was out of order here.  We've jumped from baby memories to school memories.  Love the little girl who took her teddy bear to school.

Now it's time for our music lesson.

Even choirs and religion are represented.

This room is so big and convoluted, I feel this is a good place to stop today.  I don't want anyone getting too bored.

So for this Friday, let's head to Annie's Friday Smiles at A Stitch in Time.  And thanks beyond belief for joining me today.

What a beautiful museum. I love the displays of the baby spaces best. I would have been focusing on the clothing, fabrics and embroidery too. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Hugs,

First, I feel like I need to head to some thrift stores and yard sales to find a high chair like that, because you're right - it's amazing and so beautiful. All of your funnies were cool, but I've always been such a huge fan of Bob Hope, so that was my fave. Looking back at museums, it just reminds me that we've come so far technologically, yet something about so many objects from the past are still intriguing and wondrous. Stay warm this weekend, and Happy Friday! Hugs...RO

This history museum continues to impress. I remember the earlier photos you showed us, and I think this looks like a place I would like to visit. It's very well done and really does bring back memories or feelings of nostalgia. It reminds me of being a kid (not the exhibits themselves) but makes me think of when I got to look at the "old" things my grandmother had or my aunt's attic contained. Happy Friday- hugs-Erika

good morning, I really enjoyed all of these photos to them museum. the one that really made me smile was the school desk--I went to school with those desks-I graduated hs in '67 and they were still using these-of course made so well-when my brother graduated hs several years later the school decided to "ugrade" and were selling off the desks-he bought two one for him and one for me-it is in my craft room.
the funny quotes were great my favorite was Bob Hopes
to answer from my blog-when I was first getting into soap and originally wanted to make soap totally from scratch I did allot of reading-you can use these molds but you have to watch really watch the temp-I pour at allot lower temp so no worries--but you would need oil up the molds first as well and then set them in crushed ice and then pour at the lowest temp possible. and you would probably need lots of molds too. I work with around 16 ounces at a time but yes I use much less essential oils-1/4 to 1/2 tsp tops for 3 bars

Just the sort of museum I would enjoy. I have a folding high chair much like the one you show but with a wood seat instead of cane. I got a giggle out of some of your humor. Great way to start my morning.

Love the words not found in Websters :-D There is something so special about the old things. I often wonder about the stories of the objects.

Hi Elizabeth, what a brilliant museum exhibition. Love the funnies too. I have found some old photographs relating to the park and will sort them out for next week and post them Friday. Pleased you like our cathedral too. It's a funny thing that Lincolnshire being very rural is almost a forgotten county in the UK yet originally was very important which is why we have this impressive cathedral. It stands on the only hill in the city and still has one of the few copies of the Magna Carter which is now kept securely in the castle.
Wikipedia have this to say about it:
Lincoln Cathedral or the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln was the tallest building in the world for 238 years (1311–1549)and the first building to hold that title after the Great Pyramid of Giza. The central spire collapsed in 1549 and was not rebuilt. The cathedral is the third largest in Britain (in floor area) after St Paul's and York Minster, being 484 by 271 feet (148 by 83 m). It is highly regarded by architectural scholars; the eminent Victorian writer John Ruskin declared: "I have always held... that the cathedral of Lincoln is out and out the most precious piece of architecture in the British Isles and roughly speaking worth any two other cathedrals we have."
Sorry that's a bit much but interesting I'm sure you will agree.
Have a lovely weekend, Angela xXx

I enjoyed the Friday smiles, but have to say that the photos caught my undivided attention.
The exhibits in the museum are awesome. I couldn't say if I liked one area better than another. They all had so many interesting things to see and read. Thank you for sharing these photos today.

ok, those were hilarious! I love the first one!
the museum photos are incredible..I love that high chair too!
also the boxes and tins near it..Crispo Lily Sodas..I love it.
I like that picture of the little girl and her teddy bear so much.
I'm still like that with a bear I have..I had surgery in August
and my little girl brought my teddy bear to me afterwards (I used to cover my eyes when the lights were turned on and I held it when I tried to sleep.) and a lot of the nurses thought it was a baby!
Those desks in the school room look like the ones in little house on the prairie:)
great post, so interesting, thank you for sharing.
