Second on the 2nd

For this second look, I thought I would share some book covers I've made over time.  Please be aware these were taken using my very old camera.

Book Covers

I thought I would show you a few covers I have made in the past.  I never complete my book covers until the book is finished.

This was my very first cover. Nothing to write home about, since I used magazine images and a key card from the Four Seasons. This was a tip in book about seasons and when finished, it was full.

This was another cloth book. It was my Money AB cover. The title of the book was "The Fortune," and I wanted it to show. I used a tee-shirt for the cover. The only decoration was a book plate made from polymer clay. Since it was so full inside, I kept the cover simple. (Ed note: you can see the inside of this book in its entirety by going here, although it appears the photo of the cover is missing.)

One of my favorite covers is my Asian AB. After I took this photo, I added an Asian coin to the piece. The cover was covered with an old bamboo wall hanging from the 80s. (Ed note: now that I have a decent camera, I hope to find time to photograph all the inside pages soon.)

Possibly my favorite cover is this one for my Time altered book. I used hand dyed paper towels, cloth, paper images, postage stamps, and a child's foam clock. I even put some clock hands on with a brad. Sadly, I learned a lesson, too. The "TIME, TIME, TIME" on the spine was embossed, but when I ironed the cover to the book, it melted the embossing powder. Thankfully, that is one mistake I'll never make again.  (Ed note: you can see the inside of this book in its entirety by going here.)

This is the cover of a very bulging Oxymoron AB.

I had this book with the title "Melting Molly." It holds art dolls and I just used the book title to create and elaborate on the "melting." (Ed note: I have another art dolls AB, but it is made up of tip-ins I have received from participants.  Sadly, I would need each player's permission to show their art before I did so.)

I was in a Buffy round robin and when I was completely finished, I made a "Mr. Pointy" (her slayer stake) out of polymer clay and glued it to the Buffy doll. I even left her attached to the backing from the box she came in.

I made this book for a dear friend as a graduation gift. Each of the images have meaning to the owner of the book. I've included it so you would see how dimensional some of my covers get. They seem to take on a life of their own.

In that same post I showed decos, piano hinge books, and flag book covers I created, but I will save those for another second look next year.

Now it's time to share your Second on the 2nd.  The rules are quite simple and everyone is welcome to join the fun look back.  All you have to do is bring back a post that you are especially proud of, or perhaps one you shared before anyone knew your blog existed.  Any post, any genre, any artistic endeavor is acceptable.  Then link below (direct links only, please) and Bleubeard and I, along with other Second on the 2nd friends, will be by to visit.  Please be aware this link is only open for five days, so linking on the 2nd is preferred.

Today is Day 2 of AEDM and I created a Second on the 2nd link up party and hosted this event.

Oh my gosh ! You made me happy with this post - I am in love with Altered Books, and I am in awe of all these you showed here. I enjoyed to see also the inside pages of the Money AB and the Time AB - thank you for the carrying on links to them!
And you showed so many fantastic and interesting techniques on the individual pages.
I am specially enthusiastic about the one defined topic to each AB and all the inspiring pages to this topic!
That is for sure something that is expected of an AB but for me it is difficult to bring into practice. I think I should start at least one AB dedicated to just one topic. Mine are always just filled with pages mainly meant for AJJ themes and you know they can be soo different each month...lol.
I love the back cover of the Time AB - this is so amazing -with the stitched patchwork! I am really looking forward to the inside pages of the Asian book - I love it for it's form alone- and I adore Asian style.
For me this is one of the most interesting posts I have ever seen at Second on the 2nd!
Happy Thursday Mrs. ELizabeth!

I think you broke the rule never judge a book by the cover because these covers are amazing. They entice you to dive into the inside to see what's there.

What an absolute treat! I have already scrolled back twice and probably will after writing this. I love them all, but if pressed I would say the clock one! I will be back to follow your links too! You really do live up to your blog title! A truly wonderful second look! Waiting to hear about our fridge at the moment! Hugs, Chrisx

I've been hanging out on your blog for quite some time but somehow I've missed some of these. Maybe seeing all the covers together made me pay more attention. What a great post, so colorful and so full of ideas.

I love the idea of making book covers but I hate the thought of covering up the pretty ones that were already there. Maybe for real oldies...

These are all fabulous, Elizabeth! I adore the Asian book cover and am fascinated by all the detail and dimension on the graduation one. But they're all terrific. What a great look back for the 2nd.

Wonderful assortment of covers, and I can see why you especially love the Asian one. It's funny, but I have several covers for altered books and sewn journals and I'm pretty content that they are not yet filled. I just like covers!

It's great to take a peek at your work from when you first started. What creativity with each. How long does it take to create these treasures, I wonder? Such cool covers! Hugs...RO

I just stopped by to take a look through these couple of books. The insides were as wow as the outside. :) I love how you use words. You are very very clever with them. You do that with your ICADS and you really did this with these 2 books. Plus you found some fabulous images. Thanks for sending me back. It was a fantastic journey. :) Hugs-Erika
