A three-fer tag

Today would have been my Grandmother's birthday.  For those who don't know, I was raised by my grandparents from birth.  Even though I lost her two weeks after I turned 21, I miss her to this day (and every day).

So much for sentimentality.  It has nothing to do with this tag I created.  Just a bit of nostalgia creeping in.  BTW, it's also World Vegetarian Day, a cause that is a lifestyle I have adopted.

For days I've been trying to find a way to wrap my head around the Steampunk theme of Joan's at Tag Tuesday.  When I finally found a suitable image (or at least one I thought might be suitable) I realized it also met the requirements at Moo-Mania & More's theme In the Air.  And since I didn't have very many cogs, which seem to go with Steampunk, I thought clocks would make a good substitute.  That's where Try it on Tuesday came in with their Clocks theme this fortnight.

Here is the man in his flying contraption right out of the Victorian era.

Cogs and clocks seem to go hand in hand.  The black clock is a transparency, but I smeared it as I was attaching it.

I started by making two tags, then added some acrylic paint to the top one.  Next I spritzed both with some of my shimmering mists.  While the mists were drying, I cut out the focal image, the flying man.  Then I cut three strips of card stock and stamped two with my handmade chevron stamp using dye ink.  Next I stamped various clocks and cogs using various pigment inks.  I stamped one clock on a transparency.  I arranged the pieces I stamped on card stock and assembled them on the two tags.  I sewed them to the two tags using variegated thread, then added the focal image.

Thanks for visiting today.  I appreciate it.  Also, please join me at Tag TuesdayMoo-Mania & More, and Try it on Tuesday.

Wonderful to remember today as a special day Elizabeth

A lovely art piece and great it is for both challenges

I was a vegetarian for a few years until I met Vic and he does all the cooking so I now eat whatever he makes.

The memories of your grandmother are a special gift to you. I think your page is very steampunk. I just love the man in his flying machine. Since clocks are made with cogs, they make a perfect addition. Have a good day

I love what you said about your grandmother -- of course you miss her every day. Just like those of us raised by our moms miss them. She must have been an amazing woman and I know she would find this piece a wonderful tribute to memory.

This is a gorgeous piece, Elizabeth. So many textural elements and wonderful colors, and they all work so well together. I think with steampunk it can sometimes be tempting to keep going and do too much but you nailed this perfectly.

Thanks for coming by today. Your words meant a lot.

I think you went steampunk! The clocks are great, as it is the flying man. Perfect! Nice way to combine the 2 challenges if I say so myself. (For whatever that is worth-ha-ha!) And how old would your grandmother have been today? I think of mine every Nov. 23 and this year she would have been 109. I still miss mine also. She was always a good buffer between my mother and myself. Having a mother isn't always a smooth relationship and sometimes a Nana is a better fit. At least for me, but enough about that. Have a fabulous Sunday. Hugs-Erika

That’s quite and interesting flying machine! Very cool and I think you captured the Steampunk vibe perfectly. The pocket watches and gears add to the theme. 21 is a young age to lose the person who raised you - she obviously did a fantastic job. I lost my grandparents in my 20s also but still had my parents until my 40s and 50s (dad and mum respectively) - I feel fortunate for that althought I miss all of them of course. Hugs.

This is excellent and makes me think of the Rolling Stone song, Time is on my Side. The smudge works as it goes so well with the steampunk look and I could never sew on my card....or any fabric:)
