The Roller Coaster Ride

Millie and Edgar are having their first date.  It's also Millie's first roller coaster ride.  Although roller coasters have been around since the 16th century, where Russians created the first wooden ice slides, this was a new one built just for summer enjoyment.

Millie was caught off guard as her bonnet flew off at the same time Edgar's top hat left his head.

The man on the ledge in the back is holding other riders back until Millie and Edgar's ride is over.

This roller coaster was built to the same specifications as the first primitive Gravity Switchback Railway roller coaster that became a summertime success across the country.

Although this classic wooden coaster sled only has gentle dips, rides that would come in the near future would be far more ambitious.   This coaster on wooden tracks was such a thrill for Millie and Edgar, they decided to get in line to ride it again.

However, they would never forget their very first roller coaster ride.  Edgar was sure there would soon be a second date!

Materials used include white card stock I painted green, my feeble attempt at creating a wooden roller coaster using three paint pens, four stirrer sticks I colored with a wood touch-up pen, an image I found on the internet and colored using watercolor crayons, black card stock to mat the focal image and sentiment, and computer generated text.

Bleubeard and I are excited and thrilled that you joined us for Millie and Edgar's first roller coaster ride, something to look forward to in summer.  And please join us as we host Art Journal Journey with our theme of Summertime Love.

Looks like fun. Perhaps I would take a ride on one like this, but never on those huge roller-coasters they have today, eeeeek! Lovely page again! Have a great day, hugs, Valerie

Terrific feeling of movement with this image. I have never been on a roller coaster and I don't want to. I do like to look at others enjoying them and the squeals and yelps as the people go up and down.

Great idea for a page Elizabeth

Love Chrissie xx

You captured the thrill of the wooden roller coaster rides perfectly.Edgar should take Millie for a ride on the Ferris Wheel so he can steal a kiss when they stop at the top of the wheel. Have a great weekend!

What a lovely idea - the image is unique and I love to see a vintage roller coaster - reminds me of the PRATER in Vienna.
Another beautiful idea for your fantastic theme of Summertime -Love.
Happy start of the weekend Elizabeth! I was already in 3 different restaurants by now but didn't make any photo for T-Stands-For- Tueasday . I always forget to take my camera with me.

That's a great image, and you've done a great job with it. I love the background you've made too (and the back story). It doesn't look like they have any seat belts! I would be worried about more than my hat. :)

Oh Elizabeth, what a wonderful image! You really convey the feel of it and you pulled it together so creatively!

Thanks for your Gypsy comment. I think the taco salad would be pretty good without the meat -- just the veggies, dressing, chips, dressing and salsa. And yes, we only kids learn how to adapt to being independent or by ourselves at an early age and it can be quite productive!

I'm not keen on rollercoasters but I think I wouldn't mind going on this one, especially with a goodlooking beau like Edgar. They had lots of fun by the looks of it.
Thanks for commenting on my post. About the bathroom photo... you're probably thinking too much behind this. It was just very cruel to position the toilet paper so far from the toilet!
Have a great weekend,
and keep smiling,
Greetings from hot hot Spain,
Lisca

Hi Elizabeth. I totally loved seeing and reading about Millie and Egdar's first date - I was thrilled that it was Millie's first roller coaster ride, too. So fun! Your work of art is beautiful and so full of summer memories for me! I can clearly remember my first roller coaster ride - it was at Dorney Park was the old wooden roller coaster, which was all they had at the time. I was frightened and invigorated at the same time. Thanks for evoking such awesome memories!!! And thanks for hosting this fun challenge, too.

Yes, I am really sorry to miss your anniversary. I will take my Tablet to bed with me and have a peep when we are alone.
All the best wishes for your 4th anniversary.

Haha! Definitely built by a man! In the vein of: 'You only had one job to do...'
It made me smile because I imagined myself hobbling along, pants down, to get a scrap of paper...lol.

Great page. Driving roller coaster is a little bit fun and a little bit fear.
I like how you colored the old image.

Roller coasters are always scary but fun. Millie does look a little frightened or uncertain, a good thing Edgar is there for her. Great page! A roller coaster is an excellent idea for summer love! Hugs-Erika
