Biking then and now

Although Bleubeard and I are hosting Art Journal Journey this month, I'm also joining Moo-Mania and More with their theme of wheels this fortnight.

I also want to pay homage to the Tour de France, which started in my friend Valerie's town of Düsseldorf.

You have to admit biking has certainly changed in the past 60 years.  Not sure that is the era this little boy is from, but it seemed to be a good year from a mathematic standpoint.

This tape transfer was not the best in the world, and it was even harder to photograph.

I added the heart to the back of the bike in lieu of a light and to show my love of summer.

It's now time to fast forward to 2017.

Times have certainly changed.  Bicycles have changed,

safety equipment has changed, and we are more conscious of hydration.

While 1957 is transparent, 2017 is quite dimensional.

Materials used include handmade shimmering mists, clear tape (similar to packing tape, but on a sheet), an image from a child's book, sticker letters, a heart, and dimensional bicycle related scrapbook images.

Bleubeard and I are honored you joined us today at Art Journal Journey, where my theme is Summertime Love, as well as Moo-Mania and More whose theme this fortnight is Wheels.  We'll meet you at both sites today.

what a fun page you made. I must confess I only watched it on TV, it poured all day, but I did feel sorry for those starting off in that weather. Have a nice day, hugs, Valerie

This is certainly summer page! I love it. That's what I did all the time as a kid. I wonder if kids do that the same way anymore. Seems like its lot of video games now. But I don't really know as I'm not around that age of kids. Anyhow, great AJJ page. :) Hugs-Erika

I love your summer bikes! Fond memories of bikes past :) We need to give them and the pedestrians as much right to our roadways as we give the cars.

what a fun and fabulous page Elizabeth! Nothing like those simple well made bikes. And as a matter of fact the bikes around Europe still look much like this-unless you're a professional:)
Wait till you see my next post(working on it now) We have been on the same page:)

Wow to your fabulous bicycle page Elizabeth, I could be glued to the TV during this bike race, but we record quite a bit to watch later in the day.

I may be freaked out on a bicycle myself but I adore the Tour de France and in my Land of Limited Internet it's also the land of no cable. I didn't realize this year's tour started in Dusseldorf -- and that this was Valerie's home town. I love your piece. It really captures the energy of cycling.
