Beach babes

Today we're going vintage and heading to the shore.

These ladies are showing off their swimwear.  Note the hats that they are wearing to keep their hair in place, too.

You might expect a lighthouse at the shore, too.

I believe White Stag made swimwear, but I doubt it dates back to early in the 20th century, when this photo was originally taken.

I was trying to keep the layout black and white, but it appears some cream crept in, too.

Washi tape was chosen for its color.

These slide holders, chosen for their color, were perfect for adding more interest and texture to the page.

I simply adore the cut glass and pearl flowers I picked for their beauty and color.

I started this spread with white card stock and didn't add any color.  I wanted the images and ephemera to speak for their selves.  Materials include two photos from my files, three bathers I cut from a second print, two doilies, one black, one white, a white stag clothing label from my stash, black backing card stock, three slide mounts, three glass flowers, and gifted washi tape.

Bleubeard and I are so excited you joined us today, because we both love this spread where we honor vintage bathing beauties at the shore.  Thanks for joining us at Art Journal Journey where our theme this month is summertime love.

Beautiful black and white spread, those bathing beauties look much more elegant in their outfits than most of them do today. And we still wore bathing suits like that in the 50s for swim lessons at school, made of scratchy navy blue wool! Hugs, Valerie

This is a fantastic collage of wonders and black and white projects always stand out for me. My latest bathing suit has legs and is built up at the top similar to the ones of old and much more comfortable that some I have had in between.

I hope you are sleeping peacefully as I write this

Love Chrissie xx

The black and whites work so well with this spread. I love the doilies as they remind me of the stockings the girlies are wearing, along with a little ditty my mother sang. Roll 'em, girls, roll 'em. Roll 'em down and show your shaggy knees. I believe the original song was shown your cute knees, but Ma sang a kid version she learned in the 1920s.

i think those ladies look like they are having fun. Swimwear has changed but not the urge to hang at the beach and play. Great collage with vintage photos. Certainly a summer thing! You are having fun this month I think. :) Happy Sunday. Hugs-Erika

The black and white theme really make it look very vintage. I think those bathing suits were more elegant than the teeny tiny ones of today.

Using only black and white have made this awesome page even more interesting, I loved the old photos you used and the ladies look quite elegant in that swimwear.

This is a wonderful page Elizabeth. The cream adds interest to the page. The images are lovely. Great composition. I especially like the black doily as it adds some nice contrast.

A fabulous vintage spread, love the image. I now do not own a bathing suit too old to enjoy showing all the bumps etc.
