ARTifacts for March

Today I'm joining Seth Apter with my latest ARTifacts journal entry.  Last month, Seth sent out a memo that he would only show ONE photo each month, so I had to rethink my journal.

Now I'm sure you're asking how is that going to fit in with my recycling efforts.  Thankfully, I can always find a way to recycle.  Of course, I also have the help of friends who gift me with goodies.

This is my March entry that is sewn into my Rocking Horse journal cover.

The tulips are the address label for a sale flyer that comes through the mail several times a year.  To make certain my name and address aren't shown, I fold the label portion over and sew it to the page.

The bees were printed by me when I thought I could use my laser printer with CitroSolv.   Since I had already printed them, I wasn't about to waste  them.  I added the date with a Sharpie pen.

Anyone in their right mind would have thrown this dictionary in the trash after the first few pages got wet in the flood I had in my basement.  But I just tore off the wet pages, sprayed the rest with Lysol, then colored the page with leftover watercolors.

The word "Spring" was cut from a Baskin-Robbins coupon I got through the mail.  I wanted the word more than I wanted the $1.00 off a full meal deal coupon on the back!  The lovely pink and orange square was given to me by my friend Erika.

The address label arrives flat, but I fold it over so I get both sides of the image while still concealing my address.

This page has more gifted items than recycled.

The booklet (made from recycled materials) was given to me by my friend Kathy.  It was perfect for the various gardening workshops I am taking.  I tore two pages out to use in this month's journal.  The first page shows the first workshop, which was veggie gardening.  I printed the rotation from a handout after I scanned it.  The second page is from the container garden workshop.  Both workshops were free and offered by my local library.

The little bird is a sticker I received from my friend Sally.  She gave me a TON of old address labels she didn't want, and I have definitely been putting them to good use, mostly in my monthly journal pages.

The washi tape was given to me by my friend Cindy.  It was the perfect color for this two page spread.  I found the bird feather in my yard.

One more look at my March ARTifacts entry.

Thanks, Seth for creating this collaborative.

For Day 3 of 22 leading up to bEARTHday, I recycled two pieces of junk mail, as well as a bird sticker.  I repurposed a dictionary page headed for the trash and repurposed the feather.  Everything else, but the variegated thread was a gift.  Thanks for sharing this recycling journey with me.

This is gorgeous Elizabeth. You really hit a home run (using baseball words since today is opening day locally) and I love all the images and layering and colors! I also love how you recycled so many pieces. It what I had in mind when I sent you the package. Better to share and see supplies used rather than see them languish in the back of a closet. Its what recycling is all about. Happy new week. Hope its a beautiful day in Kansas today. Hugs-Erika

It always amazes me how you can put together such beautiful pages from re-purposed materials. You are right there with several other current artists I've seen in a gallery recently who used "recycled" pieces. :)
