While most were stocking up on groceries

Thursday most people were stocking up on groceries.  In fact, several news reports showed people preparing for the dreaded ice storm and more than likely power outages by stocking up on groceries and pet friendly ice removal products.

Not me, though.  I had a coupon that was only good from Thursday through Sunday, and since I wasn't about to get out Friday through Monday, I knew I had to take advantage on Thursday.

So, instead of shopping for groceries, I shopped for fabrics and paint at Jo-Ann's, a big box craft and fabric store in the U.S..  I took advantage of their sales and purchased

from back left, counterclockwise, four fat quarters, three of which are in the red family, two bottles of red acrylic paint, two spools of multi-colored thread, a paint holder, two yards of tulle, foam backed winter and Christmas ornaments, white glittery cotton, 8 rectangles craft felt, and an impulse buy, the copper tree cookie cutter.  I promise, that gorgeous copper tree will never cut any cookies.

The fat quarters were $0.99 (all prices are USD) each, the paint was also $0.99, the red multicolored thread was $0.99, the purple/green multicolored thread was $1.29, each yard tulle was $0.75, the ornaments were $0.75, the glittery fabric was $0.79, the copper tree was $1.99, and the paint holder was the only item not on sale.  It was originally $1.49, but I had a 50% off coupon, so it cost $0.75.

The craft felt, normally $0.49 each was 4/$1.00.  I purchased 8, two of each color: black, beige, red, and cobalt blue.   I was incredibly pleased with my purchases, although it's only January, and I've cut deeply into my $60.00 annual craft budget by spending $15.21 (before taxes).

Before I left the warmth of this room, I put everything away, except the paint pot, which I plan to leave on my desk (at least until I get tired of seeing it there unused!).

Just so you know, this is a scheduled post, because I will more than likely not have electricity (electrical power).  That  means I will be freezing in the dark.  My central heating unit has an electrical start switch.  I have an electric stove, and a microwave.  The boys and I will be huddled together under blankets in my bedroom.  They will be eating kibble and I'll be eating either cold leftover homemade soup or cheese sandwiches on croissants.  So thanks for dropping by and going shopping with me today.

That's great to find so many goodies on sale, have fun playing with them. I hope you will not have to sit in the dark and cold. Here, too, everything needs electricity - if it goes, out, there's nothing, but that doesn't seem to happen here as often as it does there. Stay safe, keep warm! Hugs, Valerie

You had some great bargains and a wonderful haul of goodies to use, I wonder what you will be doing with that copper tree as well as all those lovely materials.
I hope you are safe and don't loose the electricity for too long. Its something I think we take for granted here.

:-D I like a girl with priorities! I also have an electric stove, microwave, and the heating system is forced hot water by oil. We don't have a fireplace or woodstove. So if the electricity goes out, no heat. No water from the well. Himself did invest in a small gas generator. It's main function is to keep the sump pump running so the basement doesn't flood. The countertop micro is small enough to take down to the basement and connect by heavy-duty extension cord to the generator to heat water for tea/hot chocolate, prepared foods, and a cat wash. An electric fry pan is used to cook in as a bain marie if necessary.Hope the storm isn't as bad as predicted and you come through safe, warm, and with Internet access.

HOPEFULLY you won't lose power. When our goes we lose our furnace and water too. But we at least have heat with the woodstove. I know, that doesn't make you any warmer, but if I was nearby I would invite you to my house to stay warm. So my hope for your weekend is you have heat and power and you get to play with your new supplies to your hearts content. Hugs-Erika

Wow you did a great job finding deals Elizabeth! And your annual craft budget is admirable. We won't talk about mine. :). I hope that your power holds up so you and the boys can stay warm and also so you can put some of those new supplies to work instead of huddling in the dark.

Glad that you got out and now have something to do while you are in! I haven't been to the craft store in forever- trying to organize what I have and convince myself it is enough. Problem with this is As soon as I get an open space, I have to make something.! Keep smiling and creating, stay warm and safe.

Great new stash!!
Hope all is well with you and the boys and not too awfully cold. I do believe I would be using some candles, if nothing else, to heat a spoon full of warm food *grin*
Stay safe!!!

Keeping your priorities straight, I see. Good! :)

I hate thinking of y'all shivering in the cold, though the cheese sandwiches on croissant sound good. It's 49 and drizzling here with a high expected of 50F and no snow or ice in sight. I'm sending warming thoughts your way, wishing I could send you some of my beef stew.

I am assuming you were confident you wouldn't run out of food. And now I'm confident you won't run out of anything to creative to do while iced in!

I did my power shopping on Wednesday and it was still crazy out there. I was later doing my monthly shopping for staples so it had to be done and I knew that Thursday would be worse. The only real inconvenience the ice brought me was getting Mini outside to do her business but we made each trip safely and it was a hoot watching her spin out on the slicker spots.
