T Stands For Spangles With Friends

Not the post I planned, but at some point, I'll show some of the lovely Christmas gifts I received.  I had just transferred them from my camera to my new computer and erased them from my camera, when all at once my computer no longer showed anything on the screen.  Since it was under warranty, Scott bundled everything up, except the new printer and scanner, then took it away.  The good news is, the hard drive is intact and now loaded with WordPerfect and PhotoShop, as well as my address book and all my files.

So let's head out several weeks before Christmas, where I met four other friends who are camera/internet phobic.  I've mentioned them before.  They have small children and don't want their photos or their children's photos on the internet.  So of course, I'm willing to oblige them.  Our goal was to eventually find Christmas lights, so that's why I had my camera.

First, we had a gift exchange, then headed to Spangles, a family owned restaurant that is based in Wichita, but has 27 locations in Kansas, 14 of which are in Wichita.   Each order is cooked while the customer waits, and it doesn't take long, either.  You can find their dinner menu here.  If you go to their home page, you will see what I got.  Not shown on their menu, but it's the double grilled cheese and tomato soup for $6.99.  It was the perfect thing for this vegetarian who obviously wasn't going to complain about the choice of restaurants, especially since I wasn't driving.

Note the soft drink machine in the middle of the photo.  That's part of my drink for this post.

Although this location is less than two miles from my home, I have never been to a Spangles.  I was glad we came, because I was mesmerized by the neon and the 50s style decor.   And perhaps an even better photo of the soft drink machine.

After we ate, I made my way to the restroom, where i found even more 50s memorabilia.

And finally, an old tin sign of a Pepsi Cola bottle.  And there's Elvis with a cup of coffee, too.  So even though I couldn't take photos of our food or drink there were plenty of images all around that qualify for this T Tuesday post.  We never did see any Christmas lights worth writing home about, and I didn't take a single photo after we left the restaurant.

Now it's your turn to share your T related post.  Any post is acceptable as long as it has a drink of some kind in it.  It can even be a sign or a photo on a wall.  Think outside the box, and surprise me.  Once you have your post, please link it below (direct links only, please), then Bleubeard, the T gang and I will be by to visit.  Bleubeard wants to remind you, your photos don't have to be taken on Tuesday, or even this year, for that matter.

I LOVE the look of Spangles, so bright and happy, and very 1950s style, great place to eat and drink. Glad you were able to have a nice time out with friends. I would love the tomato and cheese soup, too. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie, now heading for bed!

Throwback restaurants are really fun. So much eye candy to delight the guests and get people smiling and reminiscing. Spangles looks like it would be fun for kids of all ages.

Your photos also brought to mind Jack Rabbit Slim's from the movie "Pulp Fiction." lol. Does Spangles menu have "five dolla milkshakes?"

Happy T Day, Elizabeth!

What a fab place! I love the decor. Very 50s. I would love to go there, but just for the decor. I'm not a vegetarian but fast food is not my thing. I'd go for the cheese and tomato soup too. That sounds nice.
I would have thought a place like that would be very popular, but there don't seem to be many customers...
What a shame you didn't get to see many pretty lights (especially for the children).
I hope your computer is sorted now. Good old Scott. He is such a good friend from what I hear.
Happy T-Day

Oh such a fun and nostalgic trip! You seem to have many retro places in your neck of the woods. Where I am it's all about mimicking the bigger cities like New York and Philadelphia, and making things trendy.Glad you were able to work things out until all your computer troubles are over. Thanks so much for your comment on my post:) Happy T day!

Cool restaurant. It feels like a cross between fast food and a 1950's diner! Love it. I love the idea you can get grilled cheese and tomato soup. :) One of my favorites! I think this is a very nice T day post even if you didn't get any food and drink photos. Too bad you didn't see much in the cheery lights. Even around me I didn't see much this year either. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

Love the restaurant !!!! The 50's Decor has always been one of my favorites. I just don't think people put up lights this year like they usually do. There were very few houses in out area that had lights. :(

I wanted to reply to your comment on my blog yesterday. The gone with the wind one. I went with my grandmother to the movie too. Its when I first saw it. It was playing at this funky old theater who had an oldies night and my grandmother insisted we park at my aunts house, which meant we had to walk through this sketchy part of the city to get downtown to the theater. :) Thanks for the comment which brought back a good memory for me. :)

Gosh sorry to read you're still having computer issues E.
I feel for you. It is so disruptive. Hope things move forward smoothly for you!
Spangles is a great blast from the past and so bright and cheery.
Elvis' birthday was just a day or so ago too ;-)
Nice you could be out with friends.
Fun that they share your preference for no photos too ...

Love retro diners and this one is super. We have quite a few here in Maine and New Hampshire. One close to us that serves up all the "burger joint" specials plus salads and seafoods. Same hot red decor with a juke box too. Those guitar neon signs are super. Good luck on getting the computer all resolved. xox

Happy T Day Elizabeth and Bleubeard,
Wow that is quite a cafe, I love it! Nothing like that round here and I know some serious Elvis lovers who would adore it!
