Off to Boston

I'm headed to Boston, but only in my 7 Continents altered book, a project I have worked on since late 2003 or early 2004.  I've been to Boston, and I'll talk more on that in a moment, but right now I want to share this with all my readers and Erika, this month's host at Art Journal Journey whose theme is "Every journal page tells a story."

Bostonians certainly like their statues of Paul Revere.

Behind the statue is the Old North Church.  It is the oldest Church in Boston and its steeple is the tallest in Boston.  It is actually known as Christ Church, but many call it Old North Church.

For side two, I show I have no love for Boston.

Here is an image of Boston Common.  Dating from 1634, it is the oldest city park in the U.S..

It was declared a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1987.

Why don't I care for Boston, you ask.  I'll explain below.

This statue of Paul Revere is located in Boston Common.

So, why don't I care for Boston?   Because I found the people to be rude.  Maybe some are not rude, but aloof.    But for the most part, I didn't feel welcome in Boston, even though I considered going to MIT (yes, I realize it is across the Charles in Cambridge) for my graduate studies.  And as I told CJ yesterday, I would be stoned if I showed up wearing a Lakers shirt or jacket to a Celtics game!

For this page, I started with another used file folder I spritzed with my shimmering mists.   I cut a sheet of 7-Gypsies paper gifted me by Erika and sewed it to an image I found in a travel magazine.

For the reverse side, I spritzed different colors to match the colors in the images.  I laid down a piece of shamrock ribbon that I carried to the opposite side, to represent the Celtics.  The images came from two different travel magazines, and I wrote the words using three metallic Gelly roll pens.

Thanks for joining me as I visited Boston, my very first stop in North America in my 7 Continents altered book.  And please join me at Art Journal Journey where journal (or altered book) pages, collage, and mixed media art collide.

Lovely pages Elizabeth. but I must say I loved my time in Boston. I spent half a year in Mew York as a student, and then 6 weeks by relations in Boston, and enjoyed every minute. Okay, I was 16 the, maybe I would see things differently today. Thanks for another great page for Erika'a lovely theme at AJJ, hugs, Valerie

Hi Elizabeth,
That's an interesting comment you made about Boston. My daughter had an interview there a year or so ago and also came away with the feeling that the folks were aloof.

They don't call us Massholes for nothing you know! We earned our nickname! LOL! I know you would like me though. I am not rude.....well most of the time...unless I am behind the wheel and then all bets are off!

I think we have gotten ruder lately though. There are so many more people here then ever. I grew up here and it was never so crowded. Walking down the sidewalks has become an effort in futility!

Anyway, we are moving to Arizona next spring and I won't have to be a Masshole anymore!

Super pages of Boston, your travel magazines are a great source for photos. It looks a lovely place to visit, but like you I would have to feel comfortable while I was there.

You would not be stoned showing up to n a lakers shirt. Maybe ignored since New England Yankees are pretty aloof. I don't know why we r that way. Try going to Maine. They are more aloof and downright cold until u get to know them. Now if u showed up at a Red Sox game in a Yankees shirt. That would be a different story 🤓 Happy Thursday evening. Hugs erika

Hummmmmmm rude? Interesting. I have never found that about Boston and I have been there many times. I like it there. Especially Legal Seafood and the Boston Garden. I have a photo of myself right at that same statue too. And I even take a ride in the swan boats....

Terrific Boston page Elizabeth and I love how you created the background and it doesn't over shadow the rest of the page. Anything with a bit of sewing always has me hooked as well. Then there is the wonderful story of you and Boston. Thank you for sharing it all

Love Chrissie xx
