I have a dream

I'm joining Erika, my internet friend and host this month at Art Journal Journey where her theme is "Every journal page tells a story."
Today I am honoring Martin Luther King Jr.  For those who don't know about him, he was a Baptist minister who led the Civil Rights Movement in the United States from the mid-1950s.

According to Biography.com:
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. King, a Baptist minister and civil-rights activist, had a seismic impact on race relations in the United States, beginning in the mid-1950s. Among his many efforts, King headed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Through his activism and inspirational speeches he played a pivotal role in ending the legal segregation of African-American citizens in the United States, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. King received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, among several other honors. He was assassinated in April 1968.
His famous "I have a dream" speech is shown above in ransom letter form.

My friend Scott and I were in contact with each other all weekend.  He kept telling me the storm was NOT going to be as bad as everyone predicted.  Somehow he knew, because, although we had ice (and quite of a bit of it), it soon turned to rain.  Here are a few photos I took on my front porch once it was safe to walk on it again.

Thanks for visiting today, and thanks for your concern.  I am very grateful to all my internet friends who were thoughtful enough to be concerned for me.  You are the BEST!

Now let's head to Art Journal Journey and check out even more journal stories.

Wonderful, cold and icy photos, but glad to hear it wasn't as bad as expected, that's good. Glad you are safe and warm. Wonderful page for MLK, he was a fantastic person, and a great inspiration for others. He would have made a great president! Hugs, Valerie

Wonderful to remember MLK with this great page.

Our weather forecast was the same as yours and the same thing happened. No flood just frost and rain and a light sprinkling of snow. Rain again today so no change there.

Thank you for comments you leave on my blog I really enjoy reading them.

Have a good day Elizabeth

Love Chrissie xx

There is something quite beautiful about ice on trees and shrubs, even though it can be treacherous underfoot. Glad to hear you are safe and cosy!

Your page is simple and direct. Really makes the quote stand out.

It can look pretty, but ice storms are nasty. The ice storm you had is expected to arrive here Tuesday night into Wednesday. So glad I never emptied the water buckets for the storm a couple of weekends ago.

Your page is a great one for the challenge. Very appropriate for today as well. Glad your storm wasn't worse but the ice made for some interesting photos.

I'm glad the storm wasn't as bad as predicted, though ice is it's own nasty bit. Yours looks lovely (it always does, doesn't it? Till the tree falls on your house!) That was good news.

Perfect page. What a story that man had...

Glad you were spared from the serious icing that is going on and looks so terrible on the news!
Your page honors the powerful story of Dr King.

So glad to hear the storm not as bad as predicted Elizabeth.
The icicles and wintery trees look good in your photos - nice to see them from the distance from somewhere nice and warm.
Your page is a wonderful tribute to MLK.

Your photos look like what happened here on Christmas Day. They are still saying we may get some ice this afternoon...hopefully not! Glad things turned out well for you and you didn't lose power!

You did get some ice, didn't you? It looks pretty, and it can looks pretty since you never lost power. You must be relived. And I love your MLK page- because that is the most important story for today, being its a holiday to celebrate him and his legacy of civil rights. Hope it was a nice ice free day for you. Hugs-Erika

I always find the ice storms pretty even though they are treacherous. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as originally thought and that you did not lose any power. I like the page and I can't help it, I think of the ABBA song. If someone does not know who Martin Luther King is, they need to go to the library stat!

Glad you were not cold, cold, cold. We were promised snow but it never came, very disappointing.
I like your ransom-style letters, I think I will try that sometime. You have so many good ideas.

I like your MLK page Elizabeth - wonderful tribute. Glad the storm wasn't quite as bad as predicted. Ice is so pretty, but can be so dangerous.
