At the Drive-In (with AJJ)

If you are like me, you barely remember the drive-in.

From what I've read, it was a favorite spot to spend a summer night under the stars watching the stars: by that I mean the on-screen stars.

That is, until urbanization took over and pushed drive-in owners to sell their large plots of land that could be used for no more than four months each summer.

But back in the day when these cars were in style, this was apparently the biggest event of the weekend.  That is, until school started and the drive-in had one final Friday through Sunday night fun fest before it closed for another year.  So welcome to the back-to-school weekend when we close the drive-in for another year.

Materials used include scrapbook paper, an image from the internet, computer generated sentiment, black pigment ink, variegated thread, and a 3-D embellishment.

Thanks for visiting today.  Bleubeard and I would love for you to join us at Art Journal Journey, where this month the theme is "Back to School" and even the weekends had rituals.

Great idea for a page! There were no drive-ins in London when I was a kid, but there was 'Childrens' cinema on Saturday morning, it cost six-pence for 2 hours of cartoons and newsreels and old cowboy and kid's films, and it was such a treat! Thanks for bringing back those nice memories. And thanks for another lovely entry for AJJ! Have a nice Saturday, hugs, Valerie

Great idea for a page. I have never lived anywhere where they had drive-ins but I loved Friday nights as it meant my weekend would be playing sport with my friends from other schools.

Love Chrissie xx

Fridays were special for us here in the UK, but we didn't have the Drive in's to look forward to. Our weekend as teenagers, was the Barn Dances held in the Church Hall, sometimes there was a band but mainly it was records.
You are getting our memories working with the theme this month.
Yvonne xx

It's a shame we never had those drive-ins here in UK but I guess our weather wouldn't have been up for that.
Great idea and a great memory page too.
Wishing you a lovely weekend... Gill x

I remember going to the drive-in with my parents and later with my husband when living in South Africa. It was a cheaper way to watch movies.

We still have a drive in around here which here which we used to go to once a summer when my daughter was a kid. Just so she could have that experience before it totally disappeared. I wanted to go back this summer but never made it. Now I think everyone goes for either that nostalgia or for giving their kids the experience. That's a great photo you found with the old cars- which I don't remember either. Also BIG THANKS for fixing my link. I posted yesterday and then (since both neither my daughter nor myself had to work but the hubby did along with having his dialysis) we took off for Vermont to visit this farm museum and National Park home for the day. So my morning posts were rather rushed I guess and I messed up the link. Last night I was too wiped out to even pick up the computer. :) I appreciate the fix. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs-Erika

I loved the drive in cinema as well as I was a young girl.It was not related to school for me but I can imagine that this was a ritual for you at that times!

We still have a drive-in here, the Summer Drive-in: http://www.malco.com/cinema_shows.php?theatre_pick=33 I can't remember the last time I went, but it's quite the thing. They have themed events in addition to just having movies.

I think there is still one drive-in in the Twin Cities but it's on the north side. I remember going there in just after graduation from HS for Tom Cruise double feature. :) Got eaten alive by mosquitoes in the back of a pickup truck.

Love this! I always used to love films or even songs with Drive ins! The nearest we get here is outdoor cinemas for special films in the Summer! Hugs, Chrisx
