Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed

It all began when I prepared to make coffee this morning.  I added the beans to my grinder, then promptly dropped the lid and broke it.  Thankfully I have another grinder, but I use it for grinding my spices, like cinnamon, cardamon, anise, etc.  So of course, I tried to fix the problem by placing the beans in the grinder, and promptly got the lid on crooked.  Here I was without coffee, facing a grinder with a lid that was stuck, and feeling my caffeine addiction was spiraling out of control.

I finally pried the lid off the grinder and made a pot of coffee.   But that was just the first of my problems.

I headed to the craft room where I wanted to make a few glue stencils.  Fueled with coffee and an image I had seen on Yvonne's blog recently where several circles were shown behind a cupid, I was ready to make one.  Since I had never used this glue gun I got well over a year ago at the thrift store, I decided to make the circle, along with a few others.  Incidentally, the cost was for both the glue gun and all those glue sticks.

Unfortunately, the glue gun is NOT made for making circles, or any glue stencils.  I believe it is for adding small elements to paper or fabric, but not for what I used it for.  I kept squeezing, which I'm not good at because of my arthritis (I was born with a rare form of birth defect),

and the glue would come out in blobs, but not circles.  At least I had coffee!

I realized this was not the tool I should be using for this task, as shown from the back side, so I headed to my basement where I had a glue gun that WOULD be the right tool for the job.

However, when I plugged the glue gun in, I also turned on a heater and promptly blew a breaker, which meant I had no lights or any electricity in the basement studio.  I tried to reset the breaker, but I wasn't strong enough, so I gave up and decided to work on something in my craft room.  Guess what!!  The craft room (which is located directly above the studio on the main floor in the front of the house) and the basement studio are on the same circuit!

I'm now in my office, where I'm going to remove the photos from my camera, then watch TV, drink coffee, and forget this day ever happened.  I called my friend Scott who will be over after he gets off work on Thursday.  I'm sure I'll laugh about this in about a year, but right now, it was a day that I would LOVE to rewind.

Thanks for laughing with or at me, and of course, thanks for visiting me.  At least the blown breaker only affected the craft room and the studio, but not the rest of the house.

Oh no! That sounds like quite a horrible day. Good thing is that tomorrow is a new day and hopefully that one will be a lot better!

Did you ever read the book "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day."

Maybe it's time to move to Australia!

(You can check it out here if it's new to you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6rp0SZX7lg)

I hope tomorrow will be better. The glue stencil is really an interesting concept! I may have to try it. Or maybe I shouldn't...

We all have those types of days Elizabeth. At least the rest of the house wasn't in the same electrical circuit!

Well, I did have to laugh, but I know how awful it must have been in real, poor you! A day with no coffee, light, heat - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! Just sitting here drinking my first cup of the day as I write. Thanks for your comment on my blog, here they get you up and moving as soosn as possible after the OP, and I need to be able to walk and climb stairs before I can go home again, I have 40 stairs to maneuver each day here! Hope today will be a better one for you! Hugs, Valerie

Oh Elizabeth! A day without coffee would have been bad enough! This sorry tale reminded me of a Gerard Hoffnung story!Hope you are switched on now! Sorry, but I did laugh at your disastrous day -wishing you a better one today! Hugs, Chrisx

Oh no- sounds like you had one of those days. Sometimes I think there just bad energy. Hopefully today is better, and you can try your glue stencils again. But I always look at trying something and finding it doesn't work (although frustrating) is always a good learning experience because we always seem to remember more what goes wrong than what goes right. Hope today is a really really good day for you! Hugs.

Yes, here's hoping today started out and remains a better day for you, Elizabeth! And that you have lots of coffee with less hassle. Big hugs from me and the Girls

I've just imagined how you must feel with the lack of coffee syndrome, poor you. It would be the mugs of tea that would be my downfall.
But I have had to smile as I read what has been happening to your day.
The heat gun sounds like a great idea and I have a feeling you won't give up in your experiments.
Hope you get the power back soon.

Oh no, hope that day doesn´t repeat itself anytime soon. It sucks when the electricity goes, makes you realize how dependent you are.

Wow! I'm hoping that gets rid of all your bad luck for the year and that all your electricity is up and running soon. In the meantime, I'm joining you for coffee (though mine was already ground)

Yes such days should simply be turned off on their beginning----- horrible - You probably got out of bed on the wrong side. !
Wish your friend has repaired that dilemma meanwhile!
I think that circle stencil turned out really good in my mind!!!

Maybe there was a bad star constellation - since I had a little marital dispute today as well - which normally very rarely occurs at our house.

Wishing better stars for us all!

Just really glad to know YOU are OK! First thing I thought was the same book Jeanie above mentioned! It was a fave of our son's and when I'm having one of those days I still think of that book and say I'm moving to Australia:):) Hope all is in working order by the time you read this.

Definitely one of those horrible days where everything goes wrong. Hopefully all will be much much better tomorrow.

Oh gosh, what a day. I tried the hot glue gun stencils, saw them in Traci Bautista's book. Same results. Globs of glue, no smooth fine line circles. I like stamps better, so will stick with carving and foam stamps. Try cutting shapes out of a cereal box or chipboard and use that as a stencil. No goo, no blown fuses...xox

Horrible day. I can't imagine getting through it without coffee though. The glue stencil looks like a fun idea. I don't own a glue gun though.

Ugh, certainly no laughing matter. It seems like these days happen every once in awhile. Hope Scott was able to get you back in the light again.

Oh no, I didn't laugh, that's not good, especially the coffee trauma!
Isn't it great that there is a Scott in your world to fix the problems.
Hope today and the weekend are happy days where all goes well.

I am kinda laughing....because you wrote this with so much humor. I hope you are all fixed up now -- with coffee and lights. I just got back from freezing to death in NYC and today it just didn't make much sense to get out of bed either.....blame it on a cold and jet lag....

Oh Elizabeth, sorry you had such a bad day. I think you should still try the glue stencil if you haven't chucked it out. It might give you a nice abstract design! Thanks for dropping in on me again. The knife and fork were from a magazine - I could never make anything that realistic and probably wouldn't aspire to. The Pink Bird is at my mum's at present. He spent the first 8 months or so with my neighbour. He is being quite spoiled and probably won't want to come home. As for Canadian thanksgiving I should be back in canada by then (so you know where to send my belated Easter card. Haha). :)

Good old Murphy was playing a mean trick on you that day... I haven't heard of a glue stencil before...sounds interesting. I'm assuming it's for sprays and/or gelli printing. I'll have to look into that.
