Journal 52, Week 31: 10 minute challenge and AJJ's time, too

For Week 31 at Journal 52, Chelle asked us to create a spread in our art journals in 10 minutes.  Chelle worked with stencils, something I considered.  But then, my intuition to use collage took over.

I didn't realize how little one can do in 10 minutes.  I even started with a used manilla file folder I had painted several weeks ago.

I knew I was in trouble after I fussy cut the woman's face and hand, which was quite simple and not intricate at all.  It took nearly four minutes to complete this simple act, and I had just started.

This sentiment was the last thing I added and I almost didn't.  I wanted to call it something like "Peel back time," but went with the cheesy sentiment instead.  That's another reason why I don't like JOURNALING.  I don't need to have a conversation with myself, which is what I think journaling is all about.  I believe the abstract I created would have benefited more had I left the writing off.

Random scraps from my overflowing scrap basket became important fodder for this piece.

I've given this calendar the boot, while giving a pseudo Vitruvian Man at least one shoe to wear.

No fussy cutting here, as I had to cut the bird quickly.   All that was left to do was circle all the 31s, which represented the week number.

Truth be told, this took longer than 10 minutes, because I was waiting for glue to dry.

But because there was a time limit attached to this collage, and I used a calendar as part of the collage, I'm joining Art Journal Journey with my first entry this month.  I hadn't planned it and was surprised when I saw the Art Journal Journey theme as I was uploading this completed entry.  It's going to be an interesting month because this is one theme I can really sink my teeth into.

Materials used were magazine images, an old calendar, white gel pen, black Sharpie, and a red ink pen.

Thanks for looking and I hope to see everyone at Art Journal Journey for even more timely entries.

Hello Elizabeth, great job on this challenge!! I like the calendar and circled dates, creative way to show the date! Fuzzy cutting is tricky and time consuming for sure, so great job!!

Thank you for your visit!! This summer has been busy with fun and now not so fun. My stepdad did pass away two nights ago, and we had two other sudden deaths, reminding us that each day is truly a gift.
Sorry to hear your garden isn't doing well either, each year is a chance of getting a harvest isn't it. So far ours is holding up, quite surprised because we had a lot of rain too. Our sunflowers will be opening soon, love seeing them grow.

Take care friend, will be sure to come back soon. xo

Forgot to mention, so glad Susan did start blogging and joining you for T Time again. I've missed her art too while she was gone. Once the kids are back to school I hope to return to T Time too.

Wow- that is a super 10 minute page. I think you really nailed that Prince (or the artist formerly known as Prince) party like its 1999 on the head! Have a great weekend.

I don't like timed challenges cos I am rubbish at working fast usually. Think you did well in the limit.

Your collages strike me in a different way now that I'm trying to incorporate ideas into ATCs. I think it's amazing how much you were able to include in this one, especially considering the time constraint.

You crack me up...that bit about "having a conversation with myself." So.... obviously I do that all the time...on paper, in my mind, and sometimes verbally out loud!! ;) Couldn't we just say I am 'sharing my wisdom/interpretation with others?' ha ha...anyway dear friend...I agree, 10 minutes isn't very long and I actually quite admire this piece! that 'super, super' points me in the direction of super models, and are they really beautiful, especially "underneath" and why do we think so?' I think it's quite thought provoking. I have been thinking of Society's concept of beauty recently and just finished some journal pages about it (for DLP) but hadn't posted them yet. Excellent piece in such a short time! Also, I linked up with Art Journal Journey too...you convinced me! hugs dear ♥
