Baking a prototype

I'm joining Moo Mania and More this fortnight with a few embellishments I'm working on for possible Christmas gifts.

I began by painting some corrugated cardboard I tore apart and cut to size (4 inch sq., 10,16 cm sq.).

Next, I painted some backgrounds using my handmade shimmering mists and acrylic paints.  I added these to the backs of my now dry cardboard.  I created two of each and show one of each back above.

Not very good photos, but I combined two different colors of polymer clay, not to create a new color, but to create a mottled look.

Although it's not the best photo (because it's very late here and the lighting sucks), I like the way the colors blended in this one.

I cut pieces of green burlap and placed it over the painted corrugated cardboard.  I plan to add eyelets and run fibers through the cardboard so I can tie each card and heart in a row.  The problem is, I thought I could use E6000, my "go to" adhesive for heavy embellishments, but apparently it is not recommended for use with polymer clay.  So it looks like I can't finish these hearts that may be flying away before I find a glue that works.

I also prepared some beads to match the hearts.  I wasn't sure what I would do with them,

but I wanted them handy in the event I decided I needed some dangling embellishments.

I had hoped to have this project finished and hung so I could decide if I want to use all four hearts in a row, or three hearts, or maybe just two.  But for now, I must call these ready to show at Moo Mania and More.  Be sure to check out all the other embellishments artists used for this latest challenge.

Thanks for the visit.  I'm always grateful when you visit and happy when you leave a constructive comment.

Love what you have made and thanks for linking to Moo Mania and More, The hearts and beads are wonderful especially in combination with the rustic burlap and cardboard. For things like that I always use my hot glue gun, sticks everything. You commented about the lady on the column on my blog, you can see more of them here:

The text is in German, but there are photos of all nine of them.
Have a great day, hugs, Valerie

Oooh! Gorgeous colours, shimmer, corrugated card and hearts with wings when these are glued they are going to look great! I too was thinking hot glue - we used to use it at school. Thank you for the answers to my questions. Dusk is around the same time here! Home at the moment but away with grandchildren again on Tuesday or Wednesday. ..nice to sleep in our own bed last night! These are so pretty and creative! The colors turned out so well on the backgrounds and the hearts. Whoever gets these lovely pieces will be lucky. Making the beads is a good idea too and will be put to good use I'm sure.

Thanks so much for your blog visit and for always encouraging me in my projects. Week in the Life is dear to me so THANK YOU! Have a great day!

Wow! The hearts turned out so cool, Elizabeth! Not sure what glue to use. I use glossy accents for everything.

I have a small piece of corrugated cardboard here I thought I might could use for ATCs. It's nice to see what you've done with it. I love the burlap with it. :)

Aren't you having fun with clay!
Your hearts look great layered on the burlap E.
I have great success using Heavy Gel Medium as an adhesive. You just have to give it some drying time.
Happy Sunday to you

What beautiful hearts and your (original) plan for them sounds fabulous. I'm sure you will find a glue that works and I like the beads you made too.
Have a great week ahead :o))

These are really nice and remind me that I have been meaning to dig out and play with my clay again. Just too darn hot and humid right now. It could bake without the oven today!

As for glue, you may find this post interesting:

You are so way ahead. Most grandkids who get Christmas presents now and even they are grown, almost grown up. Harder to even think about what to do. But my friends, that's another story. xox
