Summer of Color, Week 6: Orange, Orange, Blue and my SOC 5 wrap up

For our final week, Kristin at Twinkle, Twinkle Like A Star has chosen

two oranges and blue.  I decided to go with the blue pan pastel, but when I took the photo, I hadn't really decided which blue I would use.

I started by painting my sanded plaque with the orange paint.  I added a bit of water to the paint to show as much of the wood as possible.

I spent a lot of time coloring these white flowers, which I was sure I had photographed before I colored them.  Obviously, I didn't because they were not on my card.

This pan pastel orange is quite close to the paint color.  I just hope it comes together.

Here is Week 6's entry.  You can see how the shadows around the flowers show how orange this really is.  For the details I added baby's breath and ribbon for filler.  I also added beads from an old necklace to a few of the flowers.

Moving it to a different spot didn't help much.  I assure you, this is dark orange, like you see in the lower right of the plaque and around the shadows of the flowers.

In case you can't read the quote:

I will be the gladdest thing
Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
And not pick one.
                           ~Edna St. Vincent Millay

On the back, I painted a piece of white bed sheet orange, then sewed my name to the fabric.

Here is a washed out view of the back.  I hope the side shows how orange this plaque really is.

Here are all my SOC entries for 2015.

These are the backs after I added my name.

I had this back completed when I showed Week 1's entry, but I didn't have the hanger in place.

Week 5's entry still doesn't seem to be complete.  I forgot to write my name on the back, although I have added a place for it.

Week 4's entry got a gold stenciled gear added to the bed sheet I colored red.

Then I sewed my name to the fabric before I attached it to the block of wood.

Week 2's colors were sewn and layered before adding it to the wood block.

For Week 2's entry, I dyed a piece of bed sheet yellow.  Of course when I added it to the purple wood base,  the purple bled through.  I also sewed a piece of lace I dyed, along with my name.

Here's a final look at the six SOC 5 entries.  Feel free to enlarge this photo.

I was able to visit everyone last week and hope to do the same this week.  I'm simply overwhelmed by all the talent and the diversity of projects I've seen over the past six weeks.  Be aware, though, if you are on Flickr, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, and some G+ blogs, I can't leave you comments.

I hope you enjoyed this week's entry, as well as my look back at the pieces I made over the Summer of Color.

And finally, I must thank Kristin for putting this together each summer.  Kristin, you are the BEST:  the most generous, incredibly talented, and simply the sweetest hostess.  Thank you beyond belief for six fun weeks of color each summer.

this week´s challenge turned out so well again, and you can be proud of having 6 pieces at Hand now. i´m impressed how you also make the backsides good looking, something i totally neglect (well, other People mostly won´t see it). and i´m familiar with this demon who eats up Pictures i made before they leave the camera. so far about swearing. i hope i will never be in the Situation to swear at a court of law or so.

I love the orange and blue together.

I've been researching ATCs, reading articles and watching tutorial videos on Youtube. I'm going to Michael's today to see what kinds of appropriate supplies they might have. I just threw away a cereal box, and now I find out they make a good base when cut into 2.5x3.5" pieces lol. Live & learn, so they say. Maybe I'll be able to get something ready for the anniversary celebration. Wish me luck! :)

This is so cool! I found you via your sweet comment for my stitching room on Where Bloggers Create. Thank you for such kind words. Also, I have a friend who makes altered books and I am sending a link to your site to her. What inspiration. I typically like drab colors, but that blue and orange together is fabulous. We both have clothespins of lace:) Isn't that handy? Your papers and paints are arranged like my fabric and thread. You must be just an awesome person! Heehee.

I never visit anyone before I complete my entry for the week so I am not influenced in any way, but it seems as if we were thinking alike! Not only did we both use flowers as a theme, but also a quote from the same person Of course, you put much more effort into yours, and the plaque is simply gorgeous!
