Friday Smiles 122

I finally remembered it was Friday and showed up in time to link to Annie at A Stitch in Time.

I had intended to show this last week because I know some of you, my British friends, had no idea what Memorial Day was all about.

It's mostly about honoring the men and women who have died in service of their country (the USA), but it is also a time when people fly flags and decorate graves.  Of course, there is one fool who had to stand in the middle of the road to get a few photos, too.  Thankfully, no one hit me while I was out there taking photos.  These photos were all taken here in Wichita, where I visited a dear friend's grave once I got back from my trip to visit my Grandparents graves.

These are the flowers I left on my friend's grave.  The two pots I left on my Grandparents graves were larger.

But of course, what REALLY made me smile this week was

although it's been too wet to mow, the garden has really loved the rain.  This is the first time ever

I've had three blooms at the same time.

And look at their colors.  They are called Queen Elizabeth roses

and they seem to be enjoying the rain and moisture they have received.

I hope my roses have put a smile on your face, because they certainly have MINE!!

Please visit Annie for even more Smiles as we start the weekend in smiling style.

Great roses, Elizabeth! very aptly named for you too... but I'm worried, were you never taught not to play in the traffic?? (grin) Have a good day.

Oh Elizabeth those roses are really gorgeous....such a pretty colour. Do they have perfume too or am I asking too much?
It's really good to have you joining in this week.
Have a great week.

what a lovely way to mark your visits Elizabeth, a tub of growing flowers is really such a nice idea. And your roses - fab! Apparently it's meant to be a great year for them...no idea why. If it ever warms up and stops beating everything with rain, my collection will look Ok this year. The colour of the Queen Elizabeth is lovely..so soft!

The roses are certainly lovely and worthy of a smile. Oh the dangers we put ourselves in for the sake of our photographs!!

what a wonderful Color These roses have, and the Name is perfect for them. i do not have much luck with roses in my garden, seems they have not the right soil... meanwhile i have given up re-planting flowers who won´t stay themselves (like bleeding heart, lupins and some more) and enjoy them elsewhere.

What a beautiful rose. And three blooms. Haven't planted any at the new abode yet, thinking about it. Maybe next year. Memorial Day, miss my Dad so much (he was a WWll vet). My hubby is a Vietnam Vet. And my FIL is a WWll vet and still living at 98. Bid day in our family. xox

Such a special day and so worthwhile to honour the service given in this way. For many the ultimate sacrifice. We must always remember.
Your roses are superb and worth the wait. It reminded me of my rose which rarely flowers. The "Peace" rose was given to me to plant in memory of my lovely Mother after her death in 1991. It struggled to bloom then when it managed some buds I was thrilled and waited patiently for them to open. However since my husband's hip replacement, we have a gardener (to help with the heavy work) who keeps strimming the lawn edges..... and the rose!!!!
