T Stands For Emerson Biggins

It was still bitterly cold when my friend Sally and I headed to Old Town to Emerson Biggins, a restaurant and bar I had never been to before.

As with most sports bars, it was rather cheesy on the outside.  Sorry, but sports bars don't really turn me on.

Located on a corner, Sally told me it had been here for a long time.  Note Sally has a new "shoe" on her right foot.  This is NOT the foot she had the toe removed.  Now it seems she has problems with this foot, too.

Inside, it looked like many restaurant/bars Sally drags me to.  This one had FOUR separate rooms and a bar in the middle.

You can see the bar on the left side of the photo just past the brick pillars.  To the far back right (hidden by a hallway) is another room.  I was most intrigued by that amazing copper ceiling,

and of course the wheat shock, Wichita State's mascot.  There was some tribute to Wichita State (WSU) in every room, but I failed to take photos.

As with most of these places, it's hard to get photos of the pictures on the wall, due to the dim lighting and the many, many televisions, all playing something different (sport related, of course), depending upon where you sat.

I had to look long and hard to find something vegetarian.  After all, this IS beef (and wheat) country.  Not the best photo, but I decided on an apple walnut salad and Sally chose

a patty melt.  I had no idea what a patty melt was, but I would soon find out.

As usual, we ordered water with our meals.

I thought Sally dressed very appropriately for this sports bar, wearing a tee shirt from the 2014 WSU basketball season.  I failed to get a photo of my salad, but it wasn't all that good, anyway.  Sally's patty melt fell apart and she ended up eating it with her fork.  Neither of us was particularly pleased with the choice we had made.  Both our meals were slightly under $10.00.

Now it's time to share your drink of choice today.  Is it a mug, cup, something old, something new, maybe even a teapot?  Is it a photo, or maybe digital, hybrid, or traditional art?  Or were you out and about enjoying a fun meal? Whatever you choose, please join us for T this week by posting your link below.  Then Bleubeard, Squiggles, the T Stands for Tuesday gang, and I will be by to share whatever you are offering.

There are only a few......very few sports bars that I will eat at, and those are the more pricier ones. Only because they are cleaner and the food is always better.

Starting here and going backwards - not been home long and tomorrow is an exciting day!!! This place has a fascinating name but can't say I'm a fan of Sports bars (usually soccer or boxing on here!) or food that includes red meat! Although not vegetarian I do tend to go for a veggie option(occasionally chicken or fish) so this menu would have got me worried!!! Not sure whether I will get to join you tomorrow - keep forgetting to take photos! Big hugs, Chrisx

Well, at least it wasn't busy!

We live at the sports bars when they show the World Cup, but otherwise not. I'm not very sports-minded, well, except for Sumo; and I haven't found any place that shows the sumo tournaments ;)

I like the unusual stuff hung on the walls of sports bars, rather than just photos or jerseys. but the food is not my favorite, nor the tv's. the tv's suck me in and mesmerize me, and I don't even like watching sports that much! but you are a good friend to go along with Sally...and to faithfully share what you learned with us. we had warmer weather and sunshine today, thank goodness! maybe Spring will actually arrive after all!

Looks can be deceiving I guess.
The name is fun.
Looking at your photos you'd never guess it was freezing cold either.
The only way to find out if you like a place is to give it a whirl.
I like the way the old style pubs are in Ireland with no TV's which is more conducive to conversation. But even the Irish pubs here in the US succumb to TV's.
It's not a good sign when they mess up a salad.
You and Sally can scratch that one off your list...onward and upward!
Happy T Day E...

Too bad about your meals but I do admire you both for trying out so many different places. Here's hoping the next one makes up for it! Happy T day!

Glad you got out for lunch with Sally. I think I'll pass on eating in a sports bar though. Not my "cup of tea" (pun intended).

The only Sports Bars I have eaten in are the chain ones--Chili's for example(when we visit a nearby outlet center), and the food isn't particularly good there either. It was more for location convenience. I do enjoy seeing all the interesting stuff they slap on the walls and ceiling though.

I was surprised how empty the street seemed and how empty the restaurant was. At least you get out and about!

I can't remember ever having a truly good eating experience at a sports bar. It's either too noisy the food is bad or something is always wrong. I've given them up unless it's just to meet friends there and enjoy the companionship.

I'm always amazed at the number of places you and Sally find to eat at, that you've never been to before. We have maybe five places, if you count barfood, if we're lucky! Lol.
I hope Sally's foot gets better soon. We need our feet to be in good condition, so it's no fun when they hurt.
So sorry I missed T this week.

Wee Man said - Thank you very much Elizabeth I'm glad you like it. I do like painting but Granny says we don't have enough room for lots of my big pictures, :-D

ps - Granny also said she would love to read about homemade watercolours :o))

No sports bars for me either. Hope your salad was okay. No people in that place, probably not a good sign. xox
