Seth Apter's 5 X 5 exhibition

Once again I'm joining Seth Apter as he displays the many 5 X 5 art pieces he received back in 2012.

In case you don't remember, or are new to my blog, here are the rules to this project, as Seth posted them:
Your answer must be presented on a 5" x 5" square, which could be a piece of paper, cardstock, canvas, wood panel, fabric...could be anything. Your answer must be in words, which can be written, typed, drawn, sewn, painted, etc. Since we are artists, I encourage you (but you do not have to) also make your submission visually interesting...in any way you desire.

There were three questions, and we could answer one or all.

So here is the original 5" X 5" square I created. I answered the first question, which was "the artistic ingredient."  I first sewed around the outside of the square, then sewed horizontal lines above and below the information I created on my computer and printed on my handmade paper.  I placed beeswax over the words to the answer, and left the rest of the handmade paper as I made it. If I had to do it again, I believe I would use something other than beeswax to add color and interest.

I sandwiched a square of cardstock between the two pieces of handmade paper, then used variegated brown thread on the back side and a deep green on the front to create the sandwich. Once again, I am just thrilled to be a part of this collaboration.  I'm also thrilled my art will be shown in a REAL gallery!

If you live in the Putnam, CT. area, feel free to consider seeing this wonderful exhibition of over 100 artists.  And thanks for revisiting this art I created back in 2012.  BTW, my sewing skills have not gotten any better.

Congrats Elizabeth!!! Thats just fabulous. My artwork was included in a book published by NorthLight a year ago and a second book with my artwork comes out this month... I know how incredibly wonderful that feeling is of having your art be out in the world. So so happy for you. Hugs! deb

How exciting for you! Too bad you are so far away. There is a website with a gallery album, but I didn't have time to check it out this morning:

I think I will have to see the next theme from the CB before I commit, too.

Would love to see this exhibit- how fun to have your work as part of it. Love the handmade paper, and of course anything with stitching on it draws me like a magnet. Well done.
