Craft Barn's 24th Quotes and/or Lyrics challenge: Heart or Risk

For this fortnight, the Craft Barn words we need to use are Heart, Risk, or both.  I chose a quote.

Somehow I got confused, possibly because I've just finished a month of intensive daily posting.  Or maybe it's because I saw penultimate on Craft Barn's DT and challenge page.  For some reason, I thought this was week 25, and started a new page, rather than using the back of my "Foxes" page from the previous challenge.  All that aside, here are a couple of step out photos.

I started by laying down a bit of gesso onto my substrate, then painting and spritzing some paint and shimmering mists onto the used file folder.  The name on the tab had soaked through, so I decided to cut it off, since not even the black paint would cover it completely.  I cut a heart from a piece of printer paper and used it for a template.  I laid down the red heart using a red colored pencil (and because I'm so anal, had already put it away before I shot the photo).

Next, I attempted to stamp an image inside the heart, but I'm not much of a stamper, so it turned into a bit of a disaster.

Off to the office I went, where I printed out the quote, and added it to the page.  I also used my finger to run some pigment ink around the heart and the quote.

I forgot to get out my mouse pad, so the stamping took on a bit of silliness.

This detail shot shows more of the quote,

as does this one, including the author and the "supposed" week number, which I will now need to change to 24.

In case you can't read it, here is the quote:
A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.
   ~Nelson Mandela
This much loved South African statesman died on Dec 5, last year, so I thought it was a fitting tribute to him and his good deeds (and heart).

Somehow I allowed the time to get away from me, so missed visiting two people, who I will visit once I have posted this.  Thanks as always for your generous comments.  You have NO idea how much they mean to me, especially since, when I came into this challenge, I felt like such an outsider.

I love your page, and the quote too...Your stamping looks ok to me, and besides, it's a mixed media project!! - the year (nearly) since Mandela died has gone very quickly...
Thanks for visiting my entry and your kind words. I am so used to seeing you already on the list when I go to the Craft Barn, but I know you've been doing daily posts for other projects, so wasn't that surprised you'd not yet had time!

Madiba was such a wise old man... lovely that you use one of his many brilliant quotes and I like the head stamp you have used... you were stamping onto various thicknesses of paint so it would always be problematic and I think you did a great job!

I think this looks great--including the stamping! Your piece is rich in detail and color, and such a nice tribute to Mr. Mandela.

Thank you for your very kind comment on my last post Elizabeth, you really are very kind.

Wonderful quote on a wonderful page, loving the colours and a lovely tribute to Mr Mandela.

May i ask if you stamp standing up or sat down? Sometimes it is better to stand up to get your weight evenly distributed over the stamp and i would always do a practice before stamping onto my project just to see that the whole stamp works. I do like how you have used it here as this is an ArT page so it's good not to be perfect :-) xxx

I love this! The colours, textures, stamping and the quote from a most wonderful human being. Awesome choices Elizabeth.

Thank you for your message for my and Wee Man's well being. I am well thank you, but Wee Man has had an awful time with chest infections, colds, headaches and sore throats. He's been on lots of medications and inhalers and he's off school again this week, poor wee mite.
Add to that we had visitors for a week, and my internet connection is very hit and miss just now and my laptop gave up the ghost, I'm sure you can imagine how blogging has been impossible. I will be posing my entry for this challenge on Flickr, as it is the quickest way to post, in-between shutdowns and I don't want to miss a week. I've been writing this comment for two days on some note saver on my phone so that I can add to it, and paste it here when complete.
I for one am delighted you joined this challenge; I find your work inspiring and words uplifting. Thank you (hugs) Mo & Wee Man :D
