Journal 52, Week 40: Experiment

At Journal 52, for week 40 we are to experiment.  Chelle used distress inks, water, and alcohol.  I have water and alcohol, but no distress inks, so I decided to experiment with my pastels.  I am late getting the prompt this week because I took my friend Sally to the hospital today at 4:30 am.  She is having major surgery on her shoulder.  I swear, by the time she gets finished, she'll could pass for the new Bionic Woman.

With that in mind, I started with the back of last week's entry.  You can see some of the green paint leaked to this side.  I had to figure out a way to not let the paint overshadow this week's work.

And what better way than to spray some of my handmade shimmering mists on the page.  I tried blotting the mists, but ended up removing most of it.  So I played the waiting game, not something I am good at, especially after sitting in waiting rooms, spending time in pre-op, and waiting for someone to finally take Sally to surgery, nearly three hours after her scheduled 7:00 am operation time.  I had no idea how the NuPastels would interact with the mists, but I feared they would not mix well with wet media.

Luckily, this week was all about experimenting, so that's what I did.  I found an image and decided to use it.   BUT, to add insult to injury, my scanner didn't work, so

I decided to take photos of the completed piece.  One arm (I have NO idea what they're doing with it), two new knees,

and removal of one big toe,

added up to the Bionic Experiment.

I made a point of showing the week number on the bag.   Of course, I forgot she had also had nasal surgery, so when I FINALLY got my scanner to work (after rebooting and various other steps),

I added her "nose job," too.  Personally, I think this makes the woman look like a monkey.

Bleubeard and I appreciate you stopping by because I'm not on Facebook or Flickr.  That means this is the only place you will see the Bionic Experiment.  BTW, I still need practice with these pastels, but overall, I'm happy with the outcome.

And I am grateful for your continued support and visits.  I'm working on Part 2 of the Cosmosphere, and it is harder than Part 1, because I took good notes in some areas, and not so good poor notes in other areas.  So if you don't hear from me for awhile, it's because I'm busy getting the next installment of Smithsonian Museum Day together.

Oh my gosh ... Sally is such a poor girl - what about her body is not repaired? I feel with her.. can't believe that nevertheless she can walk without this one big toe...unbelievable!
Best wishes to her when you visit her next time in hospital!

Your experiment is gorgous - though I really commiserate Sally - I had a big smile on my face reading this all about the bionic woman you created!
Happy weekend Elizabeth!

oh, a very fun experiment! do hope Sally's surgery makes her better...sometimes the healing and therapy afterwards is quite stressful. Love your colorful piece and the humor...you made me smile! couldn't spot the pastels in your piece, though. did you end up using them? you can use them like crayons and leave the 'strokes' showing, or you can smear them with a kleenex or your finger for a softer look. again, high school experience. I really should try them again soon. thanks for adding some COLOR to my day! ♥

Holy smokes!! She is a bionic woman. I always joke about my mom...kindly of course...that after many surgeries removing parts she finally got a replacement when she got her new hip. :)

You have inspired me to finally experiment with the water soluble pastels that my sistah gave me for my birthday last year.
