T Stands For Catch Up Photos, Part 1

Today I'm playing catch up.  I had tons of photos still on my SD card that needed to be removed before I headed out of town.  So forgive the catch up.  If you don't want to read the post or see the art, just fast forward to the end and leave your link.

Late last fall, my friend Sally and I went to the east side of town to one of my favorite restaurants: Sweet Basil.

We had been here before, so that may be why I didn't take any photos of the restaurant's name or much else for that matter.

They had a wonderful salad bar

and a fantastic Italian buffet.  Recently, Sally told me the restaurant had burned.  Not sure how much of it is now gone, but I was saddened when I took the photos off the card that these were the last (and only ones) I took.

Next, it's obvious

that spring has arrived.

Early spring in fact.

Lovely spring colors and flowering trees and shrubs.

And of course, one of my favorite streets in Wichita.

I make no secret that I have a deep affection for palm trees, even though the only ones you'll see in Kansas (in the US) are the metal kind.

Then we were at our destination,

a buffet we have visited in the past.

Unlike other buffets, this one serves you cafeteria style, but you can go back as often as you like, of course, just like regular buffets.

Since the trees were still budding, I could tell it was early spring when Sally and I went to DeFazio's, a wonderful Italian restaurant near our homes.

I couldn't get the orange glow out of the menu, no matter how much I played with it in Photoshop.

I wasn't deterred, though, so while waiting for our salads, I took a few photos of the art work that graced the walls.

I couldn't get good photos of any art that was under glass because the lights played havoc with my camera.

But I fell in love with this one, because I thought it was PERFECT for T today.

This one definitely demonstrated the Italian part of the restaurant, even though I have no idea what the words say.

Now this one I understood!

I got the gist of this one, too.

I am a car buff, so this one also caught my eye.  Who wouldn't want a bouquet of vintage cars?

Our meal had finally arrived, so I took a photo of my manicotti (and Italian salad) and water with lemon.

Then I took a photo of Sally's spaghetti with meatballs and a side of mushrooms.  I think I like my meal better.

And, finally, even though I took no photos inside, Sally and I stopped at Quiznos one day for Subs.  Both Sally and I were disappointed, so we each took most of our sandwiches home.  That'll teach us, and we probably won't ever go back.

What tales do you have to tell this Tuesday?  Will it be about food and drink, a favorite mug or cup, art, scrapbooking, sewing, something digital, card making, flowers in the garden, or something folksy where you invite us into your home?  Regardless, please join us by linking below.  Bleubeard and I will gladly visit, as will other T participants.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at Quiznos. I have found that they are all not the same and neither are the Subways. My favorite sandwich shop is the Sequoia Sandwich Shop. Do they have one there? Not only are the sandwiches good but their salads are divine too.
Happy T-day

Happy T Day dear friend! Happy to be linking up with you this week. WOW, lots of food choices and places this week. Sorry to hear that favorite one burned down and for the not good trip for subs. The Italian place looked wonderful, love all the T art they had, YAY!!
I love seeing the spring in your photos too. Just yesterday I was thinking how great it is to finally see GREEN everywhere now, waited a long time it seems for that. It's been muggy the last two days and now a rain is staying here and cooling it off again.
I will be joining SOC again, keeping it simple if I can. Already started ICAD and hope to just combine the two to make it easier.
Have a wonderful day!

i love your redbud trees. we had them in our yard while i was growing up, and i always loved the color of the flowers and those heart-shaped leaves.

and i find the concept of a buffet that's cafeteria-style very appealing. i don't know of one around here.

i'm sorry about the fire. :( i hope they are able to re-establish their restaurant.

Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for dropping by my blog (I'm glad you enjoyed my silly hand card!) and yes you may absolutely add me back to your sidebar. Maybe it deletes when someone hasn't posted for over a year! Glad to be back in Victoria and trying to get back to creating so I thought ICAD would be a great challenge for me.

Cindy :)

Hi Elizabeth, oh how I had a little giggle to myself at your photo of the "Pates Baroni" Italian photo, because I have the same one hanging in my dining room and while I love the colors, I too, never knew what it actually meant or said! After Googling it, the correct answer is , the artist Leonetto Cappiello (9. April 1875 in Livorno, Italy – 2. February 1942 in Cannes, France) was an Italian poster art designer who lived in Paris.[1] He is now often called 'the father of modern advertising' because of his innovation in poster design But, apparently "Pates Baroni" is not Italian and doesn't necessarily translate. . .

You and Sally sure do have a good time when you dine out. It seems incongruous to see metal palm trees in the middle of Witchita. Now the real thing, quite wonderful...xox

I love also, the name Sweet Basil, too bad about the fire!
Don't tell Sally, but I like the look of your lunch better too ;)
The flatbread pizza at Quisnos is my favourite :)

I have tales of an ailing garage door, dead garbage disposal, and a 2-years dead car being brought back to life. I have white onesies and colored fabric markers on my craft table. Been a crazy week. ;)
