Summer of Color, Week 2: Coral, teal, bright white

Kristin, our wonderful host at Twinkle, Twinkle has picked the latest SOC4 colors and they are coral, teal, and bright white.

Before we begin, I want to apologize for not visiting everyone last week.  It was a deadly week for me, and I had big blog hops every day (all seven days).  I simply couldn't be on the computer and make art, too.  But I've limited my creating time this week, so can spend more on the computer visiting each person who visited me, including ones from last week.  However, be aware, I am NOT a member of Flickr, Facebook, Instagram, Google +, etc., so if your link goes to those sites, I won't be able to leave comments.

Now let's get busy making art.

I began with some of my handmade shimmering mists and a white on white fat quarter.  I played around with both colors, trying to come up with acceptable coral and teal.

Those of you who have followed my blog for a long time, know I am in an ongoing private one-on-one color swap, where my swap partner chose teal as the color one time.  I struggled with that color, because even the experts often disagree as to the description.  I thought Kristin did an excellent job showing teal on the blog post, so I wanted to try to make something as close to that as possible.

Now you can truly see the white-on-white fabric I dyed using my handmade mists.  They are very shimmery, but the camera doesn't pick that up, of course.

When I think of these colors, I think of a beach house, probably in the Caribbean.  I realize the lighting sucks, but it's early morning here, and my camera lens gets in the way of the photo.  It's fairly obvious I can't scan this one, because it's too dimensional.

A few detail shots

show how I tried to match the coral in the sea shells with the fabric.

It's obvious the E-6000 glue hasn't dried yet, because I haven't had a chance to clean it off the buttons.

One final image of the Beach House, before I snip a few loose strands of fabric and thread.   Please visit Kristin for other participants this second week of Summer of Color.

So nice :) I love fabric collages and have done some in the past. This one is so pretty. I don't think Your "Widget" is working on SOC. I had to get to You in around about way-just thought You should know, unless it was just Me.

It's good to see a textile. I like the way you have used the buttons and shells. It's a lovely house and you've used the SOC colours well.

This is such a sweet creation Elizabeth. The colors are beautiful together and your stitch work adds charm.

Seven blog hops? Wow!

Hope you are well! Did you make it to Riverfest? I didn't go this year. Shame on me. Just too busy and when I'm not busy, all I want to do is stay home and paint or do yard work. Aren't you loving all this green we have right now?

Elizabeth this is absolutely wonderful! I can't believe you're done already! I just got up and saw the colours. Of course I'm on the west coast but still! I will have to think about how to get something "coral" - teal I work with all the time. Your colours are spot on and I love the seashells and buttons (and I'm always a sucker for anything "house" themed). Bravo!

Isn't it fun working with fabric and color? I used to consider myself a fiber artist, but now I work almost exclusively with digital.

By the way, when I tried to link from SOC, it told me I couldn't access your page. So I went to your comment on my SOC last week and was able to click on it come here to enjoy your whimsical beach house.

Thanks for your comments on my summer of color post. You mentioned that you are "simply no good with abstract." In the last month, I've heard/read that about 2 dozen times, so last night, I spent the entire night creating 3 tutorials on making successful abstracts.

If you are interested, Lesson 1 is here:
http://proartz.blogspot.com/2014/06/creating-successful-abstract-designs_17.html

That one has a link to Lesson 2 which has a link to Lesson 3.

Let me know if they were helpful or if something is missing or that you don't understand. (Also please let me know if I made any dumb typos.)

I used a "spotter" fine paintbrush for my white bits btw. What else do you do when you wake in the early hours eh? BJ

That fabric is gorgeous Elizabeth! I didn't know what you meant about white on white at first. Then, PoW, the mists really brought it to the fore. Gorgeous colours btw, too.
I was just saying to BJ, (well, typed), I was thinking, 'I don't have a theme' as others seem to have adopted, either deliberately, or accidentally, and then I remembered I do. The sea, beach, etc, haha. But maybe I'm subconsciously trying to forget the unfortunate boat of last time, haha :D
