Friday Smiles 71: Flower Bed and Veggie Garden Play

I'm joining Annie at A Stitch in Time for another Friday Smiles.  I had intended to participate last week, but I couldn't get on the internet due to my ISP.  Thankfully, I didn't post early, because I couldn't have linked anyway.

So, today you get TWO weeks of me playing in the veggie garden and Flower Bed.
Last week I intended to show that I bought two tomato plants (both different varieties) and one bell pepper plant.  I managed to get them in the ground, even though it was one of those weeks where record high temperatures were recorded.  And I'm not a gal who likes heat.

I also took a photo of my thyme for my blogging friend Divers and Sundry, which has overwintered outside for three years.  It doesn't look like much, but it continues to grow and greens up over the summer.  She asked if it would overwinter and I assured her it would because she lives in a slightly more moderate climate than I.

Tuesday I was looking outside my kitchen window and saw this sight.  The blackberry bush is what made me smile.  Not sure you can see the little white flowers that are on it, but I was jumping for joy as I got closer to inspect them.  Then I noticed my neighbor's kids had played with my bricks, so I had to straighten them before I could mow and edge.  The joys of home ownership!!

You can see how much the blackberry bush has grown, too.  I put these photos side by side so you could see how much both the blackberry and my dill have grown in a week's time.  Yes, that really makes me smile!

I had just finished mowing the front yard and using the edger around my bricks, the stepping stones, the curbing, and the driveway, when the rain came down suddenly and without warning.  In fact, I had to rush to get the mower inside before it got pounded with rain.  But we needed rain more than you can possibly imagine (unless you live in California in the US, then I KNOW you can imagine).

And that little bit of rain really made me smile.  So I hope this put a smile on your face, even though I didn't show the mad dash I made to get the mower out of the rain.  Now that would have had you rolling on the floor laughing hysterically!

So please join Annie at A Stitch in Time for more smiles that will start your weekend off right.  And you might want to join her, too.  She's really a sweetie and will welcome you as she did me.

Always a busy bee, Elizabeth. I'm amazed at how much everything has grown and so green already. Your gardens are looking very nice! Blackberry tarts on your horizon, maybe? :D Hugs to all from me and the Girls

Big hugs,

Hi Elizabeth looking good on the garden and yes it is hard to imagine needing rain right now and the winter we have had over here bit hey if we get 2 days of warm weather some one will call drought.
As to the blackbird suit the little gas as been going around the film at Christmas for about 40 years ( handyman made it ages5). Rob was expecting it having seen it at other family weddings do decided to get his own back by buying handyman the full suit .... It was hilarious j

Loving how green everything is becoming so quickly in your garden. I have to admit, it is one of the many things I am looking forward to being able to do... get in my garden and start some herbs off and put in some shrubs... I am going to have fun!!

No doubt the hot weather had a hand in the growth spurt of your blackberry bush & dill. I'm sure the rain will made your plants smile, too. Have a happy weekend!

Your yard is so lush and green...even with your high temps! I attempted to over winter thyme and parsley but winter here is too harsh and long. Maybe if I covered with mounds of leaves...it's a thought for next Fall I suppose.

Things are really greening up at your place. I only WISH I had to make a made dash through some rain here is dry, dry NoCAL.

Oh Elizabeth this really has got me smiling! I'm wondering how my little garden is doing up at our caravan - we are still looking out for my son as it is still taking time for his scar to heal and they want him back next week too - so much for telling him he would be back at work after a week! Seeing your garden has really lifted my spirits - I loved to see how quickly those plants grew - more pics soon please! Hugs, Chrisx

Thanks for the smiles E!
Love how fresh the rain makes everything look and smell...we can never water quite like Mother Nature can that's for sure.
Your flower "bed" sure is lush and pretty...
You know we lost a good sized patch of creeping thyme that has been out front between some large patio stones for years and years...only a wee bit of green growing around the edges.
I'm with you on hot and humid...it is definitely not my favorite thing...
Hope you have a lovely weekend ♥

Elizabeth you have such a beautiful garden it looks so pretty and green from here and my has that blackberry and dill grown. Sound like you needed it to rain so it can water (soak) everything for you. I so want to get into my garden but the body wont let it, the Fibromyalgia is not being nice to me ATM, I will get there eventually. I keep thinking if I go and pull 3 weeds each trip in and out it will help. LOL I am so envious of you wonderful garden. Thanks for sharing.

Hugs Eliza

The garden is shaping up nicely. Looking forward to some green. Might try planting in some strawbales at the farmhouse while we renovate. I am there 2x a week so I could water, might get some squash, tomatoes and chard. Mini garden but it would do. xox

i loved growing my own fruit and veggies in UK but now I have no space for them, but I still get a thrill when I se the baby oranges and lemons forming on my trees. Enjoy your space. I find it very therapeutic to work in the garden. We are also desperate for some rain and we did get a shower this evening, but it wasn't enough! Kate x

Everything is growing b leaps and bounds :) Your flower bed looks huge ♥ I'm still working on mine and I think ( no promises made) I might be almost done with it :) Now I need to harvest a whole lot of herbs that are growing like crazy this year.
