Friday Smiles 67: Foodie

I'm joining Annie at A Stitch in Time for our weekly smile to end the work week and begin the weekend.

This week it's about being a foodie.  What is a foodie, you ask?  According to Wikipedia, a foodie is a person who "seeks new food experiences as a hobby rather than simply eating out of convenience or hunger."  Well, I'm not sure I'm a foodie, but I've been out and about with various friends lately, celebrating my bEARTHday.  So, that may qualify me as a foodie, at least for a week or so.

My friend Shelby (who doesn't have a blog) took me to Hometown Buffet.  She asked that her photo not be on the internet, so, of course I obliged.

I had to crop this photo because she was in it.

I'm used to taking photos of my friends, not inanimate objects, or

drinks.

But I would NEVER disrespect someone's wishes, so here is our lunch.  Yep, I'm not much of a foodie, am I!  The best part of this meal was the jalapeno corn muffin.

Later in the week, I got a nice surprise, in that my friend R visited from out of town.  She asks that I don't even put her first name on my blog, let alone her photo (although I accidentally caught her backside on camera when she was talking to Bleubeard during another recent visit).

So I content myself with photos

of the menu,

or our food.  This cheesy goodness made me feel all warm inside, and filled my tummy, too.

For my last day out, a couple of my grad school friends were in town, and thought it would be a HOOT (pun intended) to take me to Hooters.  I'm fairly certain most of my friends and followers who live in the States know that Hooters is more famous for their buxom beauty servers than their food.  But this one really made me smile.

Smile that is, until the talk got serious about internet photos.  Now both these gals are in their late 30s, went through grad school with me, and are both now married with small children.   Photos taken in the restaurant show some of the memorabilia Hooters sells specifically for my city.

Both of my friends told me how they monitor internet activity in their home, and how they don't allow their children to be on Facebook.  They are also not allowed to tweet, because all this information can be traced through IP addresses and "smart" phones.  They don't allow their children's photos on the internet, and don't want theirs on there, either.  These two smart gals, both with Ph.D.'s similar to mine, feel, with young children, they are vulnerable and could put them in danger of predators and kidnappers.  I explained that in some ways I agreed, and that's why Bleubeard is the face of my blog, not me!

Back to the food, I took a photo of the menu item we all decided to get: the smothered chicken.  Although I'm normally a vegetarian, the gals talked me into this meal, especially since the only alternative was of the potato variety.  Be aware, if you're a vegetarian, Hooters is NOT the place you want to visit.

I had to agree that the food looked like the photo, but I took most of the chicken home for Bleubeard, who actually loves chicken.

I hope these days out and about and all this foodie (and internet) talk puts a smile on your face.  Please join Annie for more smiles and maybe even a few (non-foodie) laughs this Friday morning.  And please don't worry.  I promise no one is going to kidnap Bleubeard!!

Bizarrely I don't care about my photos on my blog, generally as part of a scrapbook layout, but I have started to blur out the kiddies faces. I go along the 'you can never be too careful' line...
Looks like you've eaten like a queen this week :)

I'm feeling so hungry after seeing your foodie trips. Happy Birthday wishes to you. That's the was I love to celebrate a birthday with food and friends and family. I'd love to try some of the choices on those menus but the portions are always HUGE!
You'll see on my blog how I carefully edit photos to show my family without them being readily identifiable. It's a crazy world!

You often choose a mexican variety huh. You'd have to go a fair way to fnd anything similar as a choice here. Love the foodie Friday post, but really it's more that I love all your socialising, it's so nice to be out and about with chums, huh. Am not surprised by your younger friends attitude, but fear they are setting themselves up for some big fights as their children grow into the social media savvy kids that this day and age demands they become, really. It's a big debate!

Mmmmn. I have just scoffed my lunch whilst reading your post and am STILL hungry!
I have mixed views on photos on my blog. So far no-one has asked me not to, but I do not tend to put their full names on. However, most who do appear are plastered all over the likes of FB so why do I worry?
Got nothing to hide or fear! Else I should just hide under a rock all my life!
Right, I am just getting down of my soapbox now!
Hugs

PS I meant to say that I don't think neither you nor I have missed out by only having four legged (or two clawed) friends. We get to have fun with other people's kids, spoil em and then send them home! Result!
Haa Haa!

Always fun to dine out with friends. There is a Hometown Buffet in a town near us but I've never been.

i love that definition of "foodie".

i don't put photos of people i know on my blog, mainly because i'm blogging about the places & not the people.

i'm liking the sound of that cornbread! :)

Hi Elizabeth, WOW, you are really enjoying the birthday lunches!! YAY!! My daughter would love if someone took her out all week on her birthday or any week. I call her my foodie all the time, it's a good thing and not good at the same time.
Now I am hungry from looking at this yummy food you had, lol.

That is nice to honor your friends wishes, good thing you do have some that don't mine their pictures being shared.

I have the same worries as your friend, didn't let mine have FB for the longest time and thankfully they don't use it too much. Texting seems to make them happy enough. Thanks for sharing these beautiful meals with us!!

LOVE LOVE the calendar below!!
Happy MAY my friend! My "hello" May post is up. Hoping to post on Tuesday sometime, this week and next week are extra babysitting days and doctor appts for the kids. Will do my best to be there! Happy Weekend!

Hi Elizabeth, enjoyed your foodie post thought I'm now yearning for a plate of fajitas :) It's interesting too to read of the concerns your friends have regarding the internet ... so far my friends and family are still happy for me to feature them on my blog although I am very careful to just mention their forenames ... I think it pays to be that cautious and anyway, judging by my blog stats, I don't think my audience is wide enough to be of concern. Elizabeth xx

great post E!
to echo what others have said, "I'm Hungry!" - even though i've just had lunch . . .

i don't have too much concern about pictures on my blog or facebook. i figure, i'm old and altogether not that interesting, so who would bother with me.

on the other hand yes-absolutely children are a different story. they need to be protected, there are a lot of crazies out there.

Love the food posts. My Mom is almost 80 and went to Hooters. She didnt' know what it was famous for. She likes owls, lol. The girls spoiled her rotten. I don't put my face on the Internet either. I have been a victim and now survivor of an Internet stalking and bullying. When I was younger I had a blog I would put pictures of me. Just normal pictures not anything racy. I ended up one night finding my pictures on a site for hot girls. I love making comments and helping people online. My real life privacy is way too important to me that I don't want it blurring into my online life.

It looks as though you have some good places to eat around you. Some yummy looking meals you enjoyed.
As to the photos on my blog; I always ask before I post but none of my friends have so far refused. The family are all on Facebook or Twitter, and I have warned them a few times about too many photos of the little ones, but it is how we stay in touch 'across the miles' so I wouldn't want them to stop. You certainly do/did get around bEarthday Lady ... lots of eating going on!
I have never set foot in a Hooters and have no plans of ever doing so...
for some reason the whole marketing and theme of that place rub me the wrong way and I am pretty open minded...
funny how that works sometimes...
what planet are they on that they don't offer anything meatless? (Gee I really don't like them now! LOL)
I get where your friends are coming from...
the photos of me that I like are often not that many so I am not crazy about other people posting pix of me thinking they are OK...
Seems I am a real complainer this evening...;)
maybe it's time to leave this seat...
Take care Elizabeth...

Great photos and I sort of agree about not wanting to have your photo on someone else's blog ..... It's a personal choice but I think this type is quite harmless.
When we were visiting friends in philli they took my handyman to a Hooters........ For the food you understand ..... Mmm right !
Thanks for the smile

A great foodie blog but my definition of foodie is see food and eat it LOL. The reason that I don't have my photo on my blog is that I would hate to frighten people away so our late departed dog, Katie, fills the spot well :)
How nice to have so many friends to take you out for lovely meals and thank you for sharing your birthday adventure.

Oh, I think I gained 5 pounds looking at all this food! We have Hometown Buffet here, but sadly, it has gone way downhill in terms of food, service and cleanliness-haven't been there in years.

It is nice to hear that especially people with young children still monitor what they do. I am happy that even at 21 my daughter is very careful about what she posts.
