Journal 52, Week 5: Abstract Art

I thought this post was not going to happen, because my electricity went out about 9:30 Tuesday night my time and didn't come on until about 8 pm Wednesday night.  It took another eight hours for my office to warm to 40 degrees F (4.44 degrees C), which was barely warm enough for me to scan this week's Journal 52 prompt provided by Chelle.  To make matters worse, I don't doodle, and I'm not very good at abstract art.

None-the-less, here is my entry which I call "Out of the box."

The 5 signifies week 5.  You might say I doodled with my paint brush when I made the circles, as well as

the box the circles flew out of.

I used cheap acrylic paint (in little bottles from the craft store) that I spread on the file folder using a credit card as suggested by Chelle.  However, instead of wiping the paint as thin as possible, I allowed some of the paint to pool together to create a bit of texture.  I used the handle of a paint brush to make the circles and box, as well as the dots I placed inside the circles.  I purposely made the black as grungy as possible, hoping it would add to the abstract feel.

Now I'm off to snuggle with Bleubeard and hope for warmth.

We are bracing for the next potential storm this weekend. The prediction is 3-30"--I hope this one passes you by.

I've never really understood abstract art--creating it or interpreting what the artist is trying to get across. Glad you explained what you had in mind and made it easy for me to appreciate!

oh dear, I hope your electricity stays on and that you've warmed up! This piece has great texture...and you are a dedicated blogger to brave such cold to get it posted! not sure my computer would even work at that temperature... I like the 'warm' colors too! hang in there, Spring is coming, at least that's what I hear...

Your circles remind me of seed pods blown to the wind. Fun exercise in letting go. Hope you are fully warm now...ouch. xox

I love creating in an abstract manner. It is really freeing and there are no mistakes cause you can cover it up with another abstract shape or color. I like the marks you left with your tool and the thick and thin manner in which the paint was applied. You did good!
And hey, my blog updated on your side bar this time. What gives, lol

You are too good at abstract! I've never been comfortable with it either but remember, viewers have a better vantage point:)

I never really did enjoy abstract art, but after growing up with all that seventies abstract art, I suppose that's understandable! Now I'm a little bit older, I do enjoy some of it, but nothing beats something you can just understand straight off. Nonetheless you have done an excellent job of working outside the box, I think!

Hope you and Bleubeard are staying warm and cozy...it really is a winter to remember ... isn't it!
I admire your abstract creation as I find abstract quite challenging to do...
Wishing you a happy February weekend...

OMGosh!! I am glad your heat came back on! Not good to have the heat go out in the winter, that's for sure. Glad you and Bluebeard are okay.

I am just starting to catch up on the weeks, myself. I'm behind. :) I think you did great!
