January completed and February ready to go in my never ending calendar

It's time once again to join Kate at The Kathryn Wheel to show my monthly calendar.  Seems like we just ushered in the new year, and here it is February already.

January started with snow and bitter cold, and ended with more bitter cold, accompanied by ice.  It also saw my wonderful red Deco Arts pen

die a horrible death when I tried to add both the words "Chinese New Year" to January and the word "Feb" to this page.  May it rest in peace (or piece as the case may be).

Once again, I used some of my handmade shimmer mists to make the background on both these pages. Too bad the pen had to die, since I don't have another red one to fill in the page that is all about hearts.  I used a stamp, but I don't have a stamp positioner, so none of the days lined up.  As with January, I cut out calendar squares that had memorable dates or something written on them.  It also helped me not have to measure where to place each of the squares I used for this month.

I really MUST come up with a better way to use this new drawing pad I already hate.  If I add gesso to make it stronger, I won't be able to write on it because I don't seem to own a pen that is gesso friendly.  And if I only use the pad as is (which wasn't cheap, I might add), it buckles and ink bleeds onto the previous page.  Obviously, precision is not an option for the next two years, which is how long this horrible sketch pad will last.

However, I'm sure Kate and the other calendar gals who link up will have some lovely offerings which will more than make up for my shortcomings.

Look at you right on top of it with your calendar. I still need to put the finishing touches on my Feb before I can show it. I love how your January turned out. Mine is pretty boring I'm afraid.

An other great monthly page.

For the buckling you might try slipping a clip board ( if your not removing the pages from the book) under the page and taping down the edges all the way around, gesso, or ink and spray, let dry completely before removing the tape and clip board. Paper stretches ( or shrinks really), believe it or not and we used to do this before using water color in my art classes. To get a real tight paper you would need to tape it to a board, really wet it and then let it shrink, then remove the tape when dry. Just a suggestion, and something you might want to play around with.

Still a great page and a clever stamp to use for the days.

Great calendar pages Elizabeth. My 12 months journal is 8 1/4" x 5 3/4" and bound on the short side. My new one has the same size pages but is bound on the long edge (for a change). Nope not linked any of my calendar pages to The Kathryn Wheel although I have seen her blog. I'm thinking this will be my last one as it finishes my 12 months journal and I seem snowed under in weekly challenges now. Not coping well at all, and after your comment about me meeting deadlines, thought the ironing best wait another day whilst I did a bit of catching up. AND Still haven't replied to all my WOYWW comments yet - OH HELP! BJ

WOW WOW WOW!!! I LOOOOVE your February page so much. That background is gorgeous and perfect for the month. Those little hearts are so cute!!!

You made me laugh at all the trouble with this new calendar. I'm so sorry it's not working out. Hang in there though, it looks great to me.

The January page looks awesome too!! It was a crazy weather month for everybody!

Rich tried a couple things to my blog and it still didn't work. I finally emailed them, hope they get it and I did it right. Hope to hear from them, hate not sharing with everyone.
I did do a HELLO February post though. Cross your fingers for me that somehow it works SOON!!!

Take care and hope your weekend is a good one. HUGS!

wow, it is February - where did January go? I can see where the time went on your lovely calendars! I'd love to get your recipe for shimmer mists, if it isn't confidential:)

Yes, February already. Perhaps the weather will improve on both sides of the globe soon. It is like an oven outside here. somewhere half way between your weather and my weather would be nice!
i love the way you keep up with all your challenges, and I love the little hear stamps squares you have used. If they don't line up, well that just shows a real person did it!

Sorry about your paper woes but i love your resourceful resolve. Fun boxes for February. plain old ball point pen works for me if the gesso is a light coat. xox

There is nothing as irksome as a sketchbook that won't accept "wet". Or the one I'm stuck with that won't lay flat. I suppose there is a learning opportunity in there somewhere. Like the colors you are using so far.

Love your pages, especially the way you have done Feb with that gorgeous spray. I had a horrible sketch book once, even tried glueing pages together - still have it but have given up trying to get it to behave! Chrisx
