Lest We Forget Tea Tuesday

Now I'm sure when some of you saw the title of today's post, you thought I was going to say we should not forget Tea Tuesday. Well of course, I hope that's true, because I intend to continue honoring this day of the week with tea posts. BUT, and this is the biggie, many of you are aware of what today is and we must NEVER EVER forget this day that happened 11 years ago today.

Whether you live in the US like Bleubeard and I, or you live, according to the US State Department, in one of the over 90 countries who lost citizens that day, you are sure to remember this tragic day in history when nearly 3000 lives were lost.

Add to that the number of families whose lives were affected and disrupted. Think of the children of parents who died that day, from unborn to infants to teens who have grown up without that loving parent. I could go on and on, but I get all teary-eyed when I do. So lets celebrate Tea Tuesday with a bit of art and never ever forget this day in history.

I began this yesterday with (from back left clockwise):

Pearl glaze
Cookie cutter
Gesso (didn't use because pearl glaze gave the effect and color I was looking for)
Golden Fluid Acrylics (ultramarine blue, phthalo blue, phthalo green)
Tickets (didn't use)
Cardstock (110 lb)

I poured out some pearl glaze and added a few drops of ultramarine blue, then mixed them with this old rusty paint brush.

I added a bit of phthalo green to the bottom after the first layer had dried. On the second sheet, I scribbled vertical lines of Krylon silver leafing pen. I cut these out and added them using glue, then added more green paint. I forgot spaced off the fact the leafing pen was a resist pen and that forgetfulness shows at the bottom. I added two flag stickers to the top of the buildings, then added the cross sections, also in silver leafing pen.

I used some yellow craft paint and the angel cookie cutter for the two angels. I colored large red vinyl numbers with the leafing pen and thought I took a photo, but it was not on my camera, so you'll just have to take my word for it. I'm sure you'll be able to see tiny bits of red around the large 9/11 numbers, especially in the scan.

As the project was drying, I grabbed a can of AriZona Sweet Tea. I bought six of these cans, along with six with ginseng and honey at the grocery store. I could have gotten the tea much cheaper at the Dollar Tree, but it came in plastic containers and I was willing to pay a bit more for the cans. Go figure!

I've heard of "sweet tea," but never had it. I'm anxious to try it.

And even though I was about to indulge in this tea, I didn't want to lose focus of the real reason for this day, which is

Lest We Forget!

Please join me today in remembering 9/11. Drink tea, a carbonated beverage, coffee, hot cocoa, water, or whatever you prefer. Wherever and whatever your preference, please drink it in remembrance.

I realized after I scheduled my Tuesday post fortoday that indeed it is a day that must be just a little harder than all the other days for those that lost loved ones that horrible day.

It is tea drinking weather here with temps that dipped down into the 50s overnight...I need to find my house slippers, my bare feet are a bit chilly ... temps in the 80's will be lovely later today

thank you for sharing your remembrance art piece and I am glad you are sticking with T Tuesdays...I liked the rhythm posting on Tuesdays gave/gives to my blog

take care my friend

Great post E. It was around two in the afternoon here and I was with a customer/friend in my shop. We listened in horror and cried. Then Davina rushed home. And I closed up and went home too...it felt important to be in my place of safety and love. 3000 lives and for what. I have indeed remembered.

What a poignant tribute. I remember it so vividly as DS had just started pre-school. He'd done the morning, come home had lunch and was having his nap when I sat on the sofa and turned on the TV and watched in horror as I saw the 2nd plane crash into the towers. I rang DH at work and they too were watching events unfold there. Not a day I will ever forget. BJ
