WOYWW # 113: Too hot for my craft spaces

I have not been to my basement studio for an entire week. I have not touched even a single box since you saw me last. It is too hot, even in the basement. In fact, we just experienced our 38th consecutive 100 F plus day this summer and it was 111 F yesterday/today (Tuesday). But I'm sure it will be cool and comfortable at Julia's Stamping Ground.

Do you remember that pillar candle I was going to cover in a napkin and give to a friend? It was part of a challenge to alter something you got free or paid only a small amount for. I got this one for fifty cents at a garage sale this spring. Now it is a total waste

because it has melted in this heat. And this is no optical illusion, either. The only "cool" thing today is my rocking horse, one of three I keep on top of my microwave. Yep, they are everywhere in my house. Have a great WOYWWednesday and if you live in the midwestern US, try to stay cool.

Oh my word! I despise summer so I dare say I'd be melting like that candle!

It's your very own leaning tower! It must be really hot for a candle to do that!

peggy aplSEEDS said...

gosh, that candle really shows us how hot it's been over there! ui guess you need a leaning tower of Pisa napkin to cover it with!

Oh my! We have escaped the heat here in the NW this year! No days in the 90's even. I am sure you would share with us if you could! Keep cool my friend. Maybe you could set your candle outside and let it get warm and rebend it!

Yikes, the candle says it all.... a nice ice tea should do the trick.

Muggy is how I would call it here in the north of the UK. Would love a bit more sunshine than what we get but when I hear of your heat - well, I change my mind.
Hope you and Mr Bleubeard can endure it a bit longer (and the candle before it lies straight down). Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Neet #5

Hi there Elisabeth I just wrote a book in comment and the dear blogger error msg came up - conflicting edits.. more than one attempt tot edit it at one time... I thought what?? wasn't trying to edit anything..
Hope heat goes and cool comes your way, and commiserations on candle could go quirky as is or re-melt and re-shape it, happy WOYWW Shaz in Oz.x

Yikes, that is hot!! We are meant to hit 30 today, I hate it - it's the humidity that comes with it that is so hard to take. Hope you cool down soon.... feel sorry for your candle!

No summer for us in Holland. À lot of rain, lots of cloudy days and just à few days summer. So sad For everyone here because we have summer Holiday and kids are having 6 weeks off from school now. I would save the candle For winter as à reminder when you are having it cold and are swearing against à new snowy Day....

Greetz, marjolein

Thank you for your kind birthday messages - I have been really touched by the goodwill from all around the world. Am having a fantastic holiday, firstly with my brothers and their wives joining our little band, now Julia and Mr D are here, going to drag them up to Hereford to look at the Mappa Mundi :) We're going to try to be cultured for once!!

JoZart Designs said...

Hi Elizabeth... can't you try rolling it on it's side, whilst it is soft, to realign it? Then pop it in the fridge or a cooler area (if there is such a thing in your house.
Love that little wooden rocking horse, a real cutie.
I'd willingly come to sort out boxes for you but just wait until it's a bit cooler eh??!! I hope there are no candles inside them LOL!
Love joZarty x

you could always try to draw the leaning tower of Piza on it and give it as a gift anyway, lol.

Oh my goodness, I don't know how you cope in that heat, I hope it cools down for you soon. Up here in the north of England we occasionally hit 30 on a good day!

Oh my goodness, that's unbelievable! I promise I won't moan any more about our puny English mugginess!

oh my goodness. I cannot for one moment begin to think how you cope in temperatures like that Elizabeth... Do you have to sit in a cold bath to cool down - or is it not an option not to have air con...

I must say its quite warm here today - expecting a hot day - like thekathrywheel said, we're lucky to reach that kind of temperature and if we do - its all over the papers and in the news!!! I do have to admit though - i've had my fair share of candles that have got the brewers droop - but they've been in the conservatory window in the summer - which exaggerates the heat a tad!!! You;ll have to chomp on some ice to cool down - i'm really feeling for you.

Lots of hugs - and hoping for some kind of respite for you from the heat.

That little rocking horse reminds me of one I had a child. My dad made it for me and it was all polished and lovely………don’t know what happed to it though, but it’s long gone.

Sorry to hear that you’ve not been able to un pack or play because of the heat. We’re never happy are we, it either too hot or too cold but I can fully understand with temperatures like that. I hope it cools down a bit for you soon, in the meant time lay your candle on its side and it will melt back to its original shape with a bit of luck.

Happy Crafting!

Oh my goodness, I would not survive in that kind of heat - I would be even droopier than that candle. Hope things cool down soon.

I'm definately not a hot weather person so you deserve a medal for putting up with that heat. Love the candle by the way

Å olanje na domu-Waldorf said...

Are you kidding me? It melted?! :))) That's hilarious. :)) Love the rocking horse.

Morti said...

Oh no! What a pity about that candle... We get that happen in summer if we leave 'em in a conservatory, but not generally. And there's me complaining about it being 82F.... LOL

elle said...

I hav a few candles like that and no, they can't be strightened. Ask me how I know!!! Chillax, Elizabeth. ,^)

Wow, that is a really good illustration of how hot it is! I almost feel guilty, because while it's been hot here in Georgia, it's been no where near as hot as it is there! The candle makes me think of something funky and Halloween-ish....maybe you can save it!
Here's to some cooler weather for you!

Oh wow! That's hot. Not at all surprised that you are cooling down elsewhere. Your candle looks drunk but the rocking horse is cute. Hope it cools down a bit for you this week. elizabeth x #73

Goodness that really it is hot! I'm wilting like your candle and that's with English summer weather of 30 degrees max. I'm not sure what 111 would translate to. Hoping you can find a way to stay cool xx

Yes I think the only answer is to carve the leaning tower of Pisa into it! Its pleasantly warm here today - tea on the patio looking at the hills again I think. x Jo

Jingle said...

I would SO find a great vintage looking image of the Tower of Pisa and still create it! It would be really kind of neat, actually!

Marit said...

I feel sorry for you that it's that hot that even candles melt! Oh my... I send you some of our rain!

dianneo said...

Now that's hot, but why not make a leaning tower of pisa inspired item?! Oops, now I see someone else already thought of that in a comment above. Oh well...great minds think alike!

Kim Dellow said...

LOL! Leaning tower of candle! Kim

sandysewin said...

It's been rather hot & humid here in Massachusetts, but none of my candles have drooped, so you must have it really bad.

There has to be something creative and interesting you can do with that candle!

Happy woyww,

I feel so sorry for you coping with the heat you are experiencing....could you not melt or mould the leaning candle ...? That is such a lovely rocking horse ...love the seat shape

Serendipity Stamping said...

Your poor candle! Your rocking horse is doing a good job guardig it. Wow, I can say this summer I am glad I am in Florida, it is hot, but not like the mid-west (which is where I am originally from). But, not to worry, the days are coming where you will complain about the snow. LOL #92

Pam said...

Oh my wordie Elizabeth! That is hellish indeed. I have to agree w/the Leaning Tower idea - would be a hit I think. The main thing is for you to not have a melt down in those conditions! Be cool.

Glenda said...

I know we are never happy with the weather we have, but this summer the heat has been oppressive! We are so hot and humid and it's too hot to be creative! Love your space...poor candle!

Sparkly Engineer said...

The heat has been a killer, literally this year. Maybe you can melt you candle for another project?

shazsilverwolf said...

Oh how incredibly hot!I so feel for you. I think I would melt the candle down completely & remould it, although the Leaning Tower Of Pisa is getting lots of votes :) . I understand you not collecting awards, just wanted to recognise your fabulous blog. Love to Bleubeard, Shaz xx

Lynn Cohen said...

You said you had to alter something, well it seems the candle altered itself so why not decorate it and call it the leaning tower of Pisa?
I would not survive in that heat. How does anyone? unreal.
Wishing you well...blowing cool thoughts your way.

I am with you Elizabeth. It is too hot to do much of anything even with the a/c on. It is suppose to be 112 deg today! YUK! It is a little cloudy here but already over 106! Might try sticking the candle on a tilt and seeing if it will go back the other direction. vickie

Wow. That candle says more than words ever could. It has been so hot here for so long that I feel like that candle, in a sort of perpetual Gumby melt. I returned to my workshop only yesterday, and it felt so good. What a summer.

oh that poor candle. Of course you could chop it up and make another one...

Wowsers - I had heard that there spots in the US that were having a lot of hot temps with no breaks. You know, I bet the candle is quite salvageable....I think the wonky tilt is quite neat actually.

Halle said...

That is crazy heat! Sorry about the pillar candle. You can melt it down and make fire-starters or something with the wax I'd assume.

Kezzy said...

Wow fantastic way to show how hot it is, paint it grey, carve some windows and you will have the leaning tower of pisa :-) I thought of you the other day as I saw and bought some really cute rocking horse charms, I would love to send you one, if you would like me to pop it in the post just let me know.
