Drive by shootings

On Saturday, I told my friend Halle (via telephone) that there is no big box drug store near me. Luckily, I had my camera with me last week when I went to the closest WalMart I know, which is at least 10 miles from me.

What a welcome reprieve! I hadn't seen temperatures this low since the first week of June.

Normally, by this time of day, it is in the mid-to-upper 90s, headed to at least 100 before noon.

This WalMart I'm headed to is less than a year old. I've been once before, but don't really care for it, because the prices are a bit higher on some products, which I think is a shame. This is not really a very scenic trip. Mostly, there are stoplights. I've already hit two and haven't made it out of my neighborhood, yet.

Stopped by another light, I took the opportunity to shoot a residential area.

It's hard to get a good shot while maneuvering through traffic,

although some shots were easier than others. This suburb is probably from the mid-to-late 60s, or possibly even earlier. I'm not very good with newer homes, since my area of expertise is on old homes (1880s to 1920s).

Did I mention there are lots of stop lights on this road?

More stop lights before we once again got to a more residential part of the road. I should mention, this road is a straight shot north of town.

Once again, we're in the second wave of suburbs. Housing developments shot up a few years ago in this part of town. It's the only direction Wichita can expand, since we hit the county line or run into other cities going east, west, or south.

Some of these new developments have fancy names, beautiful appointments to lull you in, and all hide behind high berms.

Finally! This is the last stoplight until I returned home. Not sure you can tell without enlarging the photo, but it is a customary WalMart with the customary sign and two roofed entries. This is where I went to get my 91% alcohol last week before I got sucked into buying more Sharpies. Guess I'm glad I did. The art would not have been as good had I not gotten those extra colors. Hope you are having a great day. I might even play with my new Sharpies. What was your latest impulse buy?

Funny you should ask; I just came here from Dick Blick where I was ordering supplies for my art class- after getting everything I *needed* (which included liquid watercolors) I then proceeded to add 4 colors that I really didn't need because we could have mixed them, but I just couldn't resist..... I have no self control when it comes to supplies!

Even tho I live in an urban area the closest Walmart is probably 10 miles, by freeway, from me. I don't really like the store.

My lastest impulse buy was a leaflet of knitting patterns that I now doubt I'll ever use. No matter how attractive things are they just don't seem to knit themselves, LOL!

First, I bought a box of vintage dominos on Ebay and a few more at a flea market. Those actions caused impulse buys of Alcohol inks, dazzling diamonds, accent glaze, rubber stamps...and then when I realized my debit card was running a fever I broke out in a sweat too. Ya know, they have a 1-800 number for gamblers BUT NO number for ARTISTS who can't control themselves--!! :)

Hello! My name is Terri, and I am an art supply addict! Unfortunately there's no cure!!! It never fails - when I go in for one supply, I always come out a a bag full of stuffage - usually things that I feeling I can't live without or that I've been dying to try. Fortunately, school supplies are now on sale in most of the big box stores. I DO love new Sharpies, Elizabeth! Enjoy! Hugs, Terri xoxo

I've been really good at not buying art supplies. I tend to just buy glue and dry adhesive. I figure with all the crap I have if I can't make something out of that...I might as well quit. I do have rubbing alcohol on today's list though since it's on sale.

Yay to the lower temps... you will be feeling all arty farty very soon... or at least be able to tackle the box situation in the basement!!
I have a tendency to do my shopping sporadically... when I hit the shops I tend to really hit them and then go cold turkey for a while because I have so many things I should just get on make!!

I'm glad your drive by shootings were such as they were and not the kind in our neck of the woods which leave dead bodies behind.
My last impluse buy would have been at the last garage sale I went to and came home with two unused new art studio art kits for my twin grand kids for their birthday $4 each. New? $15 at least.

Great trip :D. I love car pictures. So glad the temperatures are more reasonable for you! My latest impulse purchase (after almost a month of no impulse purchases) was a 7 pound box of Pink Paislee products (which they say is worth $250) for $49 from the annual warehouse sale. Now the problem is, where will I put it lol.

Does a quilt thimble count as an impulse buy? I am working on a baby quilt for a gift for a friend, and it was easier to buy another one than to look for the one that I know I have...somewhere! *sigh*
