Day 1 of the 12 Days of Christmas Swap on ABC

Today we begin opening the packages from the 12 Days of Christmas Swap. This is group 1's packages. The premise of this swap is, we each picked a day from the song "Twelve Days of Christmas," then created a 5 X 5 work of art which could be bound into a book, or displayed in any way a person chose. I've been in other 12 Day swaps, but they hinged on handmade gifts. Instead of creating a gift or ornament that someone might bring out once a year, or displayed in the recipient's art studio, this swap still celebrates the 12 Days, but in a way that can be enjoyed in a more compact way.

Here the 12 packages are shown in no particular order.

Day 1 was clearly marked with a tag and a Santa. It was wrapped in a lovely angel tissue paper with some tissue tape.

Inside was a beautiful digital contribution by Corinne of Glitz-Oh Girl. Corinne's name might be familiar to some, since she is a moderator of Altered Books, a large Yahoo group with over 8000 members.

Although it was hard to get a clear picture, you can see the detail in this work that she printed on photo paper on a laser printer. I am so in awe of digital art, and this is a stunning example. Corinne added the tag on the side using fancy fibers.

It is only fitting that Corinne be the artist of the day. Her art is always colorful, full of humor, and fun to see. Her backgrounds are amazing. If I tried a hundred years, I would never make a background like she does. There's a lot to see on her blog and web site, so be prepared to stay awhile. She is an altered book artist, collage artist, and makes art with anything paper. You might want to take a tour of her studio while you're there. So don't forget to stop by and see the original Glitz-Oh Girl herself!
