Earth Month begins

No fooling! Earth Month begins today. Earth Day turns 40 this year, so here's a little art that will get your recycle, reuse, and repurpose juices flowing. And there's only one April fool here.

The substrate of this 8.5 X 11 collage began with a used USPS flat rate envelope glued double. The background was sewn using more of my security envelopes, then toned down with gesso. I waited for the mail person to come yesterday so I would have enough fodder for this project. The little boy was plucked from a magazine, the dictionary page was left over from a "green" colored project from last month, and the stickers (both letters and flowers) were from sheets of mismatched leftover alphabets. Buttons came off an old blouse. A project made totally from recycled materials, except for glue and gesso.

Before I post my blog of the day, I want to tell you about two very nice giveaways. One is by Kimmie at Art in Red Wagons. She is giving away five tea holder caddies here. Please sign up for this. The other giveaway is from Diane at My Art Journal. She is giving away an adorable hand painted mixed media piece here. Both Kimmie and Diane ask only that you leave a comment on their respective posts. You don't have to jump through any hoops, which is my kind of giveaways that I love to endorse.

Today's blog features the art of Rebeca Trevino, a blog I found while looking for recycled materials. Rebeca's blog is called Obtainium Art, and just looking at the incredible assemblages she makes, made my heart sing. She uses old, found, and recycled objects in unusual and unique ways. Her art speaks to me, and I'm sure it will you, too. Her composition is always right on, and the colors are vibrant and fun. Please check it out. You'll be a fool if you don't because it's the perfect way to kick off Earth Month.

Love your creation! Fantastic. Happy Earth Day to you. Speaking of recycling, I need to gather some old envelopes to give away some stuff. You have inspired me - once again.... You are the Earth's friend! Love that!
