Homage to Margaret

It's been nearly three weeks since I posted this background that I made from security envelopes. I finally got it out yesterday and squared it up a bit, adding bits where they were needed. Then I used it as a background that I painted with pale green acrylic paint.

I call this "Homage to Margaret" because I was playing around with scraps of paper, trying new designs for Margaret's Dress Up project. You can always check out what Margaret's up to by checking on my left sidebar, or you can see the Dress Up 2010 project on my right sidebar.

This was a design I rejected, but decided I would glitz it up a bit and create a mixed media piece using the reject. The jacket is made from anaglyptus (textured wallpaper), the bottom and blouse from painted deli paper. I painted the flowers with my gold leafing pen and created the star pin using crushed egg shells and paint. The hanger is made from that heavy fence wire I always use. Click to enlarge for details. Thanks Margaret. Even though this dress design didn't make the cut, it made me realize how much you have really inspired me, not just today, but every month!

So, how could I pay homage to Margaret and not spotlight her blog. Margaret's blog is called Alice and Camilla. Those of you who follow the Dress Up 2010 project will be familiar with her blog. Some of you know Margaret even better than I. But here's a bit about her. I know she works hard to keep the Dress Up project going smoothly. I'm sure it takes a lot of her time to make sure every link works properly.

Margaret lives in Switzerland, is a fantastic artist, is a rubber stamper (I'm not holding that against her ), makes stunning assemblages from cigar boxes, and has started playing in fabric, too. Her art is always precious, precise, and detail oriented. You never know what you might find when you go for a visit. So grab your favorite beverage and prepare to stay awhile.

Elizabeth, you are sooooo kind! I was just correcting some 'Dress Up' links (too funny!) when I saw my name appear in the sidebar.

I'm totally blown away by your sweet homage to me! thank you from the bottom of my heartxx This is what Blogland is all about don't you think? making new friendships, inspiring and encouraging each other on our artful journey.

I was wondering about the envelopes and when we would see them again, everytime I get a bill I think of you and what I can do with the envelope! (oh no I can feel another collection coming on...) Super cool revamp of your dress, love the colours against the background too!

Thank you again Elizabeth for your warm words, you made my day! Margaretx

How could you call this lovely creation a "reject", Elizabeth?!? LOL! It's absolutely beautiful! I can just imagine how "rich" this looks in person. I just poured a cup of coffee and am off to visit Margaret's blog. Hugs, Teri xoxo

Your dress is lovely too, so rich and pretty! I think you have a Mardi Gras heart (isn't this your second dress with purple and gold ;))
